Just received a very young one in the mail today. I hope it grows up to be as lovely as the owner's mother plant is. I think is the same as 'Black Sport' or Manny Singer 'Austrian Black' I need to research this further. Ruth Crane was known to give every sport that she got a new name, I don't know why people do that. Norma

The root ball is small, so it needs a small pot. But those leaves are spread out, and so when watering, some water inevitably gets in the center. Unless you bottom-water, which I guess is an idea. Petrushka, it was bought in the Poconos, Pennsylvania, not in NYC where we are (you too, I think, right?) I should just get in the habit of buying more than one rare plant whenever I see them at big box stores. Can always return them if nobody wants them. :-/ There were also Moonshine-looking Sansevierias there, but I didn't get one for reasons of limited space. Should have, I guess - for trades and gifts and such.

You did not say what else was in the bin besides worms. I hope it contains bedding of newspaper strips, cardboard, the bedding that the worms came in, mabye a little compost, a few rotten leaves, etc.

I think 'Wagner's Gold' is an awesome cultivar! I love the cultivars that are variable like that. I also have Futura 'Striated" which is similar but a little more compact. Unfortunately I lost that big beautiful plant pictured above last winter as I did not have a good spot for it and it ended up getting hit by frost. I managed to get a new little growth out of a piece of rhizome that has sort of sat all summer but is still alive.......so hopefully I can build it back up again.
