Ssuarkc - Epsom salts (MgSO4) are high in Mg, so if you suspect a Mg toxicity, why would you add more? Since an excess (toxicity level) of any nutrient has the same limiting potential as a deficiency, an excess (toxicity) of Mg (or any other nutrient) can "make your plant sick". Are you sure you didn't read it was a (P)hosphorous deficiency (rather than a Mg deficiency) that has some considerable potential to cause purplish foliage? The most common cause of purple leaves (very common at this time of year) is a deficiency of phosphorus (P) because P is required to make ATP and ATP is needed to turn sugars to starch and to load sugar into phloem for transport. No P - no ATP - no move sugars/starches - anthocyanin (purple pigment) builds up - plant turns purple. The most frequent cause of a P deficiency is cold soils, which is why so many plants planted out too early turn purple. A P deficiency is not the only suspect cause of purple leaves. Nearly any environmental condition that puts the brakes on growth and the accompanying use of sugars, but does not limit sugar production (photosynthesis) can cause anthocyanin buildup and purple leaves. If only the outer edges of the leaves are purple, it may be a K or Mg deficiency. If the center of the leaves are also purple, it could be too much Ca in the soil or the result of too much water in the soil blocking uptake of P and Mg. Do not apply a fertilizer with the middle number higher than either of the other two numbers (N & K) to container plants. There is never a need for that much P (relative to N) in container culture unless you're supplying only N in another form. Christy, even though your CC is in an outside shady area, when placed outside, a shady spot is stronger light than sunny areas indoors..so what you have are red hues on leaves..This is normal..I've got a few plants, (lipstick plant for one) growing red hued leaves. It's sitting right against a west window.. As long as foliage feels firm, (not mushy or dry) your CC should do fine. Toni

Hey Beth. Great idea for a thread! I've been so swamped I don't really have time to take any serious pictures but I loved your theme so much I snapped some quick (embarrassingly) sloppy shots. Too bad you didn't come up with this idea a few months earlier. My plants looked like tropical birds of paradise all winter, but they're kind of dragging atm.

I m a commercial dragon fruit grower from India . we have 10 acres of dragon fruit orchard which is planted 2014. Lat yr we had mega harvest and we are super happy . since a month we faced this yellowing of leaves and it was spread so fast and we wonder want mistake we did to get this yellowing of leaves . so , I did my study and I came across several such sites for help . To be frank all are misleading and I decided to see our mistakes and get back to our routine which we didn't follow in past few months due to expansion of dragon fruit plantations . Finally we start to get back our routine and we got it fixed 100 % with a week time all the yellowing changed to green and yellowing has come under control. so ,what all misleading information I got and it is not true . 1) Excess water will not cause such yellowing of water . ( water retention may cause ) 2) Magnesium deficiency in the soil ?? ( not at all ) 3) Excessive sunlight ? ( not at all ) so what is the reason for yellowing of leaves in Dragon fruit ? In my experience - it is a type of Entrobacter - gram negative bacteria that cause the yellowing especially at the bottom of the leaves . so we came to know the cause and we didnt had such issues before then what prevented us so far ? ... we have been using a foliar spray on regular basis since we planted and we had no such issues or minimal issues. So , my strong suggestion for those experience such yellowing of leaves in dragon fruits is - SPRAY BORDEAUX FUNGICIDE - WHAT IS THIS B..FUNGICIDE ? check in the google . since we planted our dragon fruits for commercial production we use to spray once in a month of copper sulphate + slaked lime + water to prevent such out breaks . this is one of the best solution for yellowing of leaves we have seen so far .Result seen so I thought of taking my time to share such information to help others . You may also try some fungicides and bactericides mixed foliar spray to get intense effect or control . If you use Bordeaux spray on regular basis you will get fungicide - Bactericide - calcium - Magnesium all the nutrients and protection for your plants . Hope I share some useful information .
