Why are my watermelon leaves turning yellow and fruit falling off
Comments (4)Not too much rain. This plant has had yellowing of the leaves since it was a seedling. I have gotten a few messages from people that the Golden Midget just has yellowish leaves. I can propose that maybe the fruit turning yellow/falling off is because of lack of pollination? I have a blacktail mountain watermelon growing right next to it that has no problems....See MoreLower Leafs On Fruit Trees Turn Yellow?
Comments (2)steere: Could you tell us what kind of fruit trees you have? It is common for a few leaves on the lower branches of trees like peaches to turn yellow and eventually fall off. This is nothing to be concerned about. Concern is when they all turn yellow and fall off. If your trees are growing vigorously, I would hold the fertilizer. Most fruit trees do not need it in ordinary soil, although mulch around the base can be helpful to slowly feed the trees while helping to retain moisture. Sounds like you have a perfectly normal situation. But if you have peaches, and they are growing fast, don't let them get too big and bushy next season before you start to think about keeping the centers open and pruning them for shape....See Morejiro shidare leaves turning yellow and dropping
Comments (6)If only planted 3 weeks ago, I'd guess transplant shock would account for 99% of your problem. This is NOT an ideal time of year to be planting new trees, especially somewhat delicate JM's. Adequate water and time is the only solution. And cherry problems have nothing to do with the maple. Comments (7)Yes, so cal San Fernando valley. The fig's ph tested at 6.75, which is within the range of N absorption. My water is pretty alkaline at 7.9 so it tends to counteract all the acidity I put into the ground with compost and fertilizer. the tree gets plenty of water, I test monthly with a probe. my cure-all is worm tea, but I'm worried a shot of N right now will be a killer in the heat. i'm going to try a heavy watering in the morning. my wife is sort of devastated as the figs are turning mostly inedible. Past years were super sweet and tasty (big thumbs up on the V de B) and we had a huge crop coming this year....See MoreJason (Zone 10b, San Diego)
