We planted ours 60cm apart about 2 1/2 years ago, and now I am wondering why I planted them so close together... On the flip side, some people down the road planted them along their driveway 4 years ago, and they are still tiny, plants that have never flowered. Theirs are planted straight into the grass and never get any attention. Ours are planted into dug-over soil with a thick straw mulch. If the bed is well prepared, you can space them out farther apart.

This is Queensland Lynnie::::::Mine multiply very fast.So space them further apart as Robyn said.
They can be invasive so cut off the flower heads when they have finished flowering,..MM.

Mine self seed prolifically, you will have the mass planting you desire in no time. I have mine up my driveway too, but they are all burnt from the new Years Day, heatwave.

I agree with MM, I cut my flowerheads off, to stop them seeding into the bushland. I put them into the bin, so they can grow at the tip ?
