Did all our SE Queenslanders get that lovely rain.

So far over the past 24 hours we have received 85 mm ( over 200mm further south ) but why does it have to come down so hard and fast. It came down so heavy on our block that we had to dig a trench across the driveway to the Garage/Shed as the water started pouring in, thank goodness everything is up off the floor, except the car, lawns mowers and wheelbarrow wheels, we had about 30cm or more dept of water down at the back fence.

Found out later it was caused my the back neighbour he had built a fence across the boundry fence and the water could not run away but once he got out with his crow bar and did something the water started to drain away, mind you I had a ball splashing around in it, I felt like a kid again. I hope all the Bearded Dragons are Ok especially the very small ones as I seen one running for its life. But most of all I hope the water catchment areas are getting a lot of this beautiful rain...Cheers....MM.

Lucky you with all that rain (sorry about the problems though). We had 34mls (in 20 mins) on Friday but since then only 5mls and most of that was overnight. Been only nuisance showers - just enough to make me run to get the washing off and close the windows. By that time it has stopped so then open all the windows again :( Hopefully we will get our share soon.

Better down the Sunshine Coast (as if they need that much - send it this way please). My daughter was complaining about trying to get to work in the rain - poor thing. She is one of those young ones who only think of the inconvenience, even though she was raised on tank water so knows about wasting it! Sorry about the whinge.

g'day mm,

not this is spot rain not general rain so like in the case of munduberra on thursday morning i think? it got 8"s in 1 hour but that was about the only real rain in the region.

then last week i think nambour and sunshine coast locales where getting flooded and have been getting good rain off and on since most of it double figure stuff.

so far this month up to the 17th we had around 100mm yesterday we had 4.75 in the tube and this morning (haven't read it yet) but it looks like about 22 odd mm for the past period and i would say more to come. nothing heavy and sudden but very good soaking stuff.

Marion thats terrible that a Church has ended up on your Brothers house, also sad to hear that the trees are gone, but thankfully more can be planted.. I can just imagine all that tin flyng around Hubby and I sat up through Cyclone Justin when we live north of Townsville and the next door neighbour had that dont care attitude "she will be jake mate " kind of thing and one guess where all this loose flying objects landed up..one sheet of roofing iron sliced right though two of our banana palms.. I managed to get hold of my brother in TSV he told me because they are on the fringe they are getting a fair bit of wind but also plenty of rain . I do hope all your family are ok.... Hi GH Yes it would be good if we could get some of that rain . And Len maybe that next one will come down a bit further south that would be very nice....Cheers...MM.

Very Grey and damp here... Dee like a Melbourne Winter and you are right I remember when it was 20 degs in Melbourne I would often say, if only it would stay like this all the time so you are spot on.. I love the Melbourne Climate its hubby that wants to live here I would go back any day I know it would not take me long to get used to it again but for now I am cold and had to put the thongs away this morning and find my moccies, track pants and long sleeve shirt...I cannot even go outside to finish my new raised bed for my Gerbera's that I started yesterday but gave up in the end as the swaying of those tall tees and the cracking I could hear put me right off. Now its drizzling all the time but I am not complaining... Its been very windy here GH actually I heard on the news this morning thousands had no electricity I think it was bad down the Gold Coast, we have small tree branches down all over the block so another job to do tomorrow I mowed the day before it rained so its still short and very green now. I feel for you all. I am lucky as we don't have town water connected so don't have to worry about restrictions, just running out of water:) Luckily the dam still has plenty of water though the tank for drinking is getting down. We have a header tank up the hill behind the house where dam water is pumped into. All we have to do is turn on the tap next to the house to water the gardens. The header tank is not very big but usually lasts a week or 2 to water vegies, use in toilet, etc. When its empty we just have to go down and turn the pump on for a couple of hours to refill the tank. Good when the pump is working, not so good when it's not (only rarely though). Not having town water on hand we realise the value of water and are careful not to waste it. I rarely water the lawn as grass generally grows back with the first rain though I do try and keep a couple of areas around the patio watered so dirt isn't dragged in. Tanks are a very good investment for gardeners, even just a couple of 44gal drums to catch rain water can make a big difference to the plants. Keep your chins up, every day is a day closer to rain. As much as I hate to say it though, we really need flood type rain to fill dams and underground water. Hope your shoulder is improving MM, don't overdo it.

Asked our 20 mins-north-of-Rocky neighbour for the 2004 rainfall and he responded: January 123.75, February 78.5, March 72, April 11, May 0, June 6, July 0, August 10.5, September 7.75,October 33.25, November 26, December 100.75. Total 569.5, total rain days 52. Every fraction counts! Presumably it was the 33.25 in October that rescued the dam from going completely dry. A dam which has approached dryness closely three times in 26 years. I couldn't work out how to find a figure for Mackay from the BoM but, for this year, I have an empty chart stuck to the fridge. Here's hoping. Good to see Len's recollections of the flood/s. Found a story by Phil Jarratt in The Bulletin of the 1991 flood while cleaning out the filing cabinet; I think I'll keep that piece of paper. Rocky floods closely connect with the Connors and Funnel floods across the old Sarina-Marlborough highway which bring back a lot of memories. Spent two days on the southern bank of Funnel Creek Dec 1972 dodging the mossies etc and making campfire coffee. The nearby landholders were angels, providing meat and so forth, to the stranded on many occasions. Cheers Rose

seventy plus at Dicky Beach in the last couple of days - it looks as though the copious amounts of mulch has slowed down the "creek" we get whenever it rains hard. Everything is saturated but no water lying above the level of the mulch

There's a team of kiwi builders one block back and one across (if that makes sense) and they've started digging away all of the top soil on a tiny block of land to put in a huge house and a pool. They also took away a lot of roots from the jungle behind my place so I'm expecting some of the big trees to say enough when we next get high winds.

The block where the new house is going is one of those "wonderfully" sub-divided blocks of land - cut a normal house block in two and build two monsters with pools. The building of the second house had to wait until the first house was almost completed because there just isn't enough room to build two houses at the same time. In the new house there's less than a metre between the boundary and the foundations and when the pool goes in I'll be able to sit on my fence (in the corner) and dip my feet in the pool.

Some people call that progress.

I'll say we've had rain! The lawn still squelches when I walk across it. Plants are enjoying it, though, particularly thr gingers and ferns,
