Help finding Musa Basjoo in New Zealand

I'm desperately trying to buy a Musa Basjoo plant here in New Zealand... if any one know where I can get one-- either mail order or nursery ,please let me know ! This will complete my garden dream! If you're Aussie, American, Japanese-- anyone and you know a certified nursery who can export one to this country -- please let me know!

Try contacting Nestlebrae Exotics, John Prince has written an article in the latest Subtropicals.
John has a web site.They are in the Hellensville area
Subtropials has a web site too.

Cold and wet are a bananas worst enemy. I would dig up the rootball and check the roots and true stem/bulb for signs of rot. If they are mushy or black that means they rotted. Bananas like water but like to be well drained. Make sure you have large holes in the bottom or your pot and lots of perlite or other coarse medium mixed into your potting soil.

I agree with Diana... looks real good. I have one, that is just fine (pup from last year) and it doesn't look as good as that one! hehehehe Like Diana asks... is it in direct sun/heat? They WILL droop. Secondly, is it getting enough water? They will droop if they need more water... but then, they will also droop if they are getting too much water.... as in, the soil stays WET.

Greetings Laura, Briefly, after the first good frost, cut off all your leaves and spray the entire pseusdostem with COPPER based fungicide then wrap the stem in burlap. Then I would build a simple cage a foot or two around the stem and fill with DRY straw or other types of mulch. Afterwards, cover everything with plastic or a tarp to keep everything dry. In regards to keeping a potted plant outdoors, I would strongly discourage this as potted plants are more susceptible to the cold even if you mulch heavily. The name of the Ebay seller with the nice big healthy banana plants is...."bigiha".....After receiving the first plant, I was so happy with it, I have since ordered several more, she is going to keep and grow these until spring....She hasn't listed any this week, I guess because of the holidays. Some of the ones I ordered were advertised as 3ft, the first plant(Yunnan-Plant in the shade) was advertised as 3 ft, but it was much larger... Another good seller with big healthy plants is..."hortus119"....His banana plants were in the two foot range, but the packing was absolutey great...He also has not listed any banana plants this week, probably because of the holidays... I hope they both get extra business, good sellers deserve it.
