Help with Musa Basjoo

Hello, this is my first post. Musa Basjoo planted last fall and did well until the first freeze. This spring came back fast and has been starting a new leaf about once a week. But the leafs turn brown and eventually fall apart. One of the six plants has dissapered above the ground, but still has a healthy looking root. Gets water regularly and fertilizer ever 2 weeks. I'm in North Texas and it is very windy. Thanks

Cold and wet are a bananas worst enemy. I would dig up the rootball and check the roots and true stem/bulb for signs of rot. If they are mushy or black that means they rotted. Bananas like water but like to be well drained. Make sure you have large holes in the bottom or your pot and lots of perlite or other coarse medium mixed into your potting soil.

I agree with Diana... looks real good. I have one, that is just fine (pup from last year) and it doesn't look as good as that one! hehehehe Like Diana asks... is it in direct sun/heat? They WILL droop. Secondly, is it getting enough water? They will droop if they need more water... but then, they will also droop if they are getting too much water.... as in, the soil stays WET.

Keeping the humidity up is really important. I would was it really thoroughly and clean the trunk and leaves with a paper towel and water. If its somewhat older, I would cut all the leaves off except the growing one. Then put it in the ground in a sunny spot with some occasional fertilizer and watch it take off! Good luck! -Alex
