Brian is right on. Buy them now, stick them in pots full of a rich organic mix and let them grow inside. If they get pleny of sunlight and a decent amount of water, by the time spring comes around the corm will be nicely developed and it will have enough leaves for vigorous growth when you transplant it into the ground. Very occasionally Home Depots in GA will carry them. Your best bet around here is to find a nursery that can order one for you, or search online and get one shipped to you. Good luck.

The following web address is an article posted by another member I followed about outdoor winter care. Although we had a mild winter, my basjoos were sprouting up in Feburary. MY Ice Cream and Black thai came up in late Spring. I also garage kept bananas, Queens, Sago and Pygmy Date Palms and my Palms actually leafed some except for my Sago's.My Sagos lost all their leaves but flushed once I put them outside in the Spring. I thought my Sagos had died.My garage kept Bananas stoped growing except for one that leafed. However this was my second year to keep plants in my garage and had better success than the first year.I did a better job with light and watering but still was unsure if I was over or under watering. I believe my garage temperature stayed in the upper 50's to low 60's most of the winter. Like Chad mentioned, I put a couple of pups in the garage as back-up but did not need them. I will do the same this year and have aquired some more light fixtures to install. The Basjoos I wintered outside was really nice to have alrady growing and filling-out in March when we had some nice days to sit outside. Some great advise already. I would get a bright light and check the underside of the leaves for mites. These tiny animals are the size of the sharp end of a pin. Look carefully under each leaf. Indoor potted bananas usually are attacked because of the ideal environment. They tend to suck the sap from the leaves, weakening the plant, slow growth, leave droop, leaf drop, death of plant. If you find them, wipe off with warm moist rag,rinse well. Or gently spray with hose under the leaves. Other than that, a transplant into a larger pot would be beneficial.

Greetings Laura, Briefly, after the first good frost, cut off all your leaves and spray the entire pseusdostem with COPPER based fungicide then wrap the stem in burlap. Then I would build a simple cage a foot or two around the stem and fill with DRY straw or other types of mulch. Afterwards, cover everything with plastic or a tarp to keep everything dry. In regards to keeping a potted plant outdoors, I would strongly discourage this as potted plants are more susceptible to the cold even if you mulch heavily.
