Lemon Butter

I've just made some lemon butter, (some of you may call this lemon curd), to give as Christmas presents. The recipe called for whole eggs, not yolks only. Now, it's a long time since I watched my mother and grandmother make this, but I thought you only used yolks, and, since I didn't want to take the risk and waste all those eggs and other ingredients, this is what I did. I'm happy to report it has turned out beautifully and looks and tastes exactly as it should. I wonder what would have happened if I'd followed the recipe. I think the egg whites might have coagulated and I'd have ended up with white lumps all through it.

Can anyone confirm that it is egg yolks only, or is the book right and I'm wrong?
