what a nice thing to do to take them in sparaxis, I do agree with you though, 5 or 6 cats is ALOT to keep, do you have an animal rescue anywhere near you? as they will sterilise them and try to find homes for them. I think it's terrible that someone has abandoned this cat with it's young kittens, but some people just dump animals because theyre moving or going away on vacation and the animals are suddenly an inconvenience, it's an awful thing but it happens a lot, and ask at any rescue shelter and this is the WORST time of year for this, they get flooded with unwanted animals near xmas.

They would have been dead in the heat we have had the last 2 days. Instead they have been eating their little heads off. I have 2 homes organised, and another possible. I will keep the last 2 (brother and sister). I prefer to have 2 cats rather than one as they are good company in the house, and play together instead of pestering us for company. My Cocker spaniel thinks all her Christmases have come at once, and keeps sniffing them to see if any of them have caught rabbits yet - as if! They are barely 7 weeks old. She lives in hope. My other dog has not met them yet, and is going to have to learn the hard way that they are part of the family. She is only a year old, and our old cat died a year ago. The RSPCA and animal aid are, as you say, flooded with kittens and puppies at this time of year - particularly kittens as Spring is the main breeding season for cats. we are actually bearing the cost of sterilising the ones we are giving away. it's our bit for animal welfare and to ensure that they don't breed, and it meant I could more easily get homes rather than get stuck with 5 kittens, which I no doubt would have kept. Mother cat has disappeared, and I am hoping she doesn't come back with more kittens, but I think she may very well start the long trek home now that she is unencumbered. Very sad, but i can't do anything about her now.

sparaxis, I think you are the one who is a present for this little ones, theyll now have a second chance at life. I really applaud you for having them sterilised and finding homes for them. youre a xmas angel :)

Sparaxis - I have just read about the kittens you saved. I think it is a wonderful story and know your two new additions to the family will bring you years of happiness. The kittens who found new homes with your friends will bring love to their new families too. As to the mother - she may have a happy ending to her story, too. A new home may take her in, or the old home may welcome her back. The heartless person who dumped them to die may in turn have been told to leave. The cats can't tell us what happened at their old home at Christmas.

I think the Mummy Puss was very clever! If ever there was a home to choose and rest her babies then your house sounds like the one.
2 cats definately happier than 1 in a home.

I'm glad you don't live near me. I'm a sucker for little cuddly things that need a new home but we've got enough animals now.
