My Christmas Present! ROCKS!

Happy Holidays Everyone!

A few summers ago, I picked up an egg-shaped rock at a garage sale for a quarter. I placed it in a garden, and it looked cool there. I told my wife Carol that I would like to find more.

This Christmas I received a HEAVY box from Carol. I wondered what it could be! The box was FILLED with 55 egg-shaped rocks! (They're each about 3 inches long.) Carol remembered my wish for more rocks! I love my wife! (She also gave me a box of rusty, antique, hand, garden tools! Too cool!) Carol told me she found the nicest lady in southern Idaho who gave her an incredible deal on the box of rocks.

Now I need to decide how to display my rocks in the garden...singly, groupings, or in some kind of design. Had to share my wonderful gift from my wonderful wife!

they are GORGEOUS! I would NOT put them outside. they would be in a glass bowl on my coffee table.!!!

My oldest daughter (who is in the Army) and has some money for the first time in her young life, asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I told her lots of dirt for Winter Sowing and Bubble Mailers for exchanging seeds through the mail. She had a fit!! She said she was not getting "some raggedy stuff for her mother for Christmas!". I tried to convince her that it was what I really wanted, but she was having none of it. She ended up buying me a very lovely indoor tabletop water fountain that I will NEVER be able to use because of my 4 large dogs and three smaller children that would just destroy it!!!! PLEASE!!! SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME DIRT!!!!!!!!

They're always needed for the finer restaurants" Uh, yeah Shauna, I'll send ya a BIG box of those!LOL I'm not sure how well goldfish would do in there Syreeta, but I suppose buying a handful of feeder goldfish and throwing them in, would help to keep the mosquito population down. If they didn't make the winter, it wouldn't be a big deal. Brenda, the dugout is just on the other side of our shelterbelt from the backyard. We won't be burying the waterhose as it would chew up a ton of tree roots in the process. So the hose would just run through the shelterbelt where there's no grass anyway. I'm not sure how DH will be setting up the hoses yet, but I'm sure he's got something in mind. He says he can get a hold of two sprinklers that were used on a golf course, and with these hooked up to 2" hoses would be able to do some really serious watering!! "now how will you get the water out of there to water your gardens, do you use a pump too? Merry Christmas, now watch it snow" Yes, Sharon we've got a water pump that was used to pump the water off of the truck when we hauled in water for the garden. Now DH will just have to show me how to use the thing! And we'd better not get any of that white stuff for a while yet. Although, we will be needed lots of it to help fill the dugout now ;^) Marcia, my boys already have had the swimming pool idea! That is precisely why there will be a snow fence all around it :^) Actually, the backhoe operator was filling the boy's heads of a skating rink come winter. Hmmmm, how do you go up and down a ladder wearing skates? Better yet, how do you get a snow-blower down 10' this winter?lol May have to wait til next winter for the rink.:)

I'm anxious too. It's going to be hard to leave it in the box until Christmas. Cameras have improved so much in the last few years, I'm pretty sure I'll get better photos than I did with my old one. Canon makes a point-and-shoot now that zooms up to 50x (for about twice as much money as I'm spending). That's just hard to believe. My goodness, you could probably take a picture of a bird a half a mile away with that thing. lol I'm putting it on my If-I-Ever-Win-The-Lottery list along with my attached two story sun room/garden conservatory filled with tropical plants. : ) Here is a link that might be useful: Canon with 50x zoom

The guy phoned yesterday. Looks like i got them both. He has two extra carbs for those motors. They alone are worth over $150.00. Hope to pick them up saturday. Feel like choking this guy. He GAVE AWAY a 34 ford coupe to a museum. He thinks the 21 bolt motor fit that car. Don't know if he gave away the car without the motor but i think he did and got the 21 bolt motor after the fact because if the motors wern't sold they also were going to the museum. The older motor was rebuilt and run 3 years ago. Made the mistake of telling a friend of mine about these motors. He wants one. NOT. He is the kind of guy that wants something new or a new toy he just writes a cheque. He ain't getting a motor. He can get his own. He can actually buy a new one with the vehical if he wants. Actually he did. He bought a running restored 1945 ford half ton. Yes i said 1945. It was built for the army. When the war ended the leftover production trucks were sold still in army green to the public. The 21 bolt motor fits that truck. That is the motor he wants for the same price i payed after i go and get it. I don't think so. I'll just keep it a secret. Kind of looking forward to getting these old lungers. I remember hearing them run on the dyno after the rebuild. Man are they quiet. We ran them on natural gas and 180 degree water. It took too long to get the temp up on natural gas compared to gasoline. You couldn't even smell them while they were running. No fumes.

Beautiful but I'd keep an eye on the 3rd pic , beige rock with brown spots, just might hatch out a prehistoric creature 1 of these days!!LOL I like the arrangement you have also, if you had an old wheel of some sort might work as "frame" for them. Great gift Carol!! Happy New Year! Jan

Carol sure done good! Todd my hubby has a mini rock band out of little rocks. He has it displayed at his work office. If you push the bottom underneath it plays "you are my sunshine" (my song to him!)....Today we leave for Yachats (Oregon coast) to celebrate our 20th Anniversary (Jan 13th)....
Have fun with the rocks.

I love these rocks! I have three that I picked up at a dollar store (but I've seen them at gift stores for $10 each!)

I bet they'd look great in a nest of rusty barbed wire. I love all of them! I think dcarch's idea is cute too ... having a bird with the eggs under them or around them. You're a lucky guy, Kirk, and Carol is a sweet wife!

I like D'Arch's idea of the chicken too. Or even a flamingo. And you're right Luna barbed wire would make a perfect nest. You could also grow poached egg flowers around it if the soil is too wet for hen and chicks.

What great ideas! Thanks for the compliments too. :o) I have a barbed wire basket which would look nice with several of the eggs in it. I bet it would hold around 12. That would look cool on our wooden table under our covered front country porch. I love the idea of a chicken with eggs with Hens and Chicks! Bear Hugs! Kirk

Carol needs to be hugged & often !!! didn't I read you are a teacher ? You have to take a few to put in something on your desk in the classroom to remind you of the love that surrounds you! The others have great suggestions to use them as well. The possibilities are endless ...

I have some of those, only mine are marble, and colored like Easter eggs. My MIL, Mother and I all bought some when we were in Italy. We were at the factory and my (at the time,age 5) daughter was given one without the coloring. She didn't want to take it--'don't take things from strangers', and I had to MAKE her take it-LOL
I wanted it even if she didn't!

Those are beauties! My mom used to have a small collection. I think it may have been a "thing" in the sixties.

This is the kind of gift you can't find over at the mall. Well, you know what I mean. Not a box full at a good price. It is wonderful to have someone who knows you well enough to find that perfect unexpected gift!!! Way to go Carol!

All the beautiful earthy colors are fabulous! Now you're the proud owner of 56 of them, Mr. Rocky :-)

The antique rusty tools will find a good use also I'm sure. Thanks for sharing this very unique and thoughtful gift! ~tenderlee
