poor little Sophie - how much more suffering?

That poor little tot, so badly burned when a car crashed into her childcare centre in 2003, and now hit by a car tiday and tonight in a critical condition. How absolutely terrible and what agony for her family to bear.

Hi Alison,

I was distraught when I heard that news last night. That poor little girl and her family have been through so much, it's just not fair. I can't stop thinking about her. Thank goodness the head injury isn't as bad as they feared. I think the whole of Australia will be sending good thoughts her way, I know I will.

It certainly makes you wonder why things happen at times, doesn't it.
When I saw her wonderful father speaking on T.V. with tears in his eyes I cried along with him.
That glorious little girl needs all our prayers and thoughts to help her recover this.

the plant needs plenty of indirect sunlight to flourish water thoroughly when the top one inch of soil feels dry leave water out for at least 12 hrs so its room temp before watering fertilize once a month and i'm 99% sure the plant will put out so many leaves you'll find it hard keep up if natural lighting is limited buy a floor lamp with a special light bulb for growing plants can be found at your local hardware store Pohtos vine responds very well under grow lights i suggest you cut back the vine back to about one ft dont throw the other parts away stick them in water they will root then stick them in the soil that way you will have a full lush plant not a leaf here and a leaf there once you have a healthy base full of leafs you can grow it longer from there or you could go out buy a already lush healthy plant and start with that one

Thanks all. I will extend your sympathies to little Bear. She seems to be doing a little better today. At least the wheezing has stopped. She has antibiotics to help settle her stomach. When I gave it to her she started foaming at the mouth. I got scared. I managed to grab her and a towel and kept wiping her down. At least she didn't throw it up. I opened a can of tuna for her and poured just the juice in a bowl and she lapped some of it up. I tried mixing mineral oil with her dry food, but she turns her nose up to that too. She really isn't eating at all. She loves water, but she hasn't been drinking water now either. The vet said that was the only thing that kept her hydrated. When I weaned her off the LF to the DVP I started her on the Duck and Green Pea formula. Since she liked it so much I thought I would give her a variety and bought the mixed ingredients for her. That seemed to be the start of her problems. Mixed ingredients contain lamb, green peas, oatmeal, chicken, beef. The vet thinks she was allergic to something in the mixed ingredients and that is what caused the problems she is having now. I am hoping that once she gets over the trauma of being hospitalized and her stomach settles she will start eating again. I am going to stop on the way home from work and buy her some baby food. My problem is if she isn't eating I can't get any fiber into her. I am afraid once she starts eating this may happen again. I don't think she is having a problem smelling the food because when I made chicken last night she came in the kitchen crying for some, but then she wouldn't eat it. She tried to eat some, but she was gulping air when she tried to chew it. Thank God my son is home, and my daughter is over to stay with her today. They are going to call me if anything changes. I watched her like a hawk after her first episode, and took her in almost immediately when she started showing signs of distress this time. It's like she wants to eat but can't, or she is scared to eat. She has lost weight in the three days since this started. If she doesn't eat soon I am afraid she isn't going to make it. Jenny

Home life is a good life though isn't it? I am considering going on a mass-rescue at our local WalMart. Those dumdums put a whole shelf of 6" minis inside on the bottoms shelf. NO light. And not much water either. Most are crispy and mostly dead. They are all named ones from Kordana. Still the lady said they will be 30% off, which makes them about $4-$4.50. STILL too much. What the heck are they thinking!? They bring stuff in, cram it on a shelf, usually the worst possible place too, and put it on 'ignore' mode. That store has so much stock in it to keep its workers busy a person does not even have time to move those 30 or so pots outside and give them a drink so they don't end up tossing dead plants. And NOBODY is going to pay $4 for a dead 6" potted mini. I don't even know if I can swallow $4 per plant on a mercy mission. With taxes that will add up awful quick.

Utilities suffer from CFLs poor power factor

Back to the power factor problem of CFLs. The POCO issue is that they cannot bill for the poor power factor. The generation and distribution system must be designed to deliver the V-A required, not just watts. The poor power factor increases the size of all the equipment and line losses on the distribution side, with no way to bill residential customers. If the waveform is non-sinusoidal (and switching power supplies are unless power factor correction is done in the equipment) it can also lead to nasty harmonics and overloading of lines. The bad power factor of PC power supplies started causing all sorts of problems a few years ago. The result was a standard that requires them to correct the power factor in the supplies.

Does anyone know if these people require anything more 'physical' than our prayers?
Perhaps we can do 'more' than pray....but pray also, of course!!!
Even flowers delivered may help to lift the spirits!!

I know Karen you want to do something but I seem to remember the last time Sophie was in hospital her parents requested people not send flowers or toys, (they get so many), but make a donation to the Childrens Hospital instead.

I heard an interview with Sophie's Father and he would realy love to have more Australians donating blood rather than flowers or gifts for Sophie.

Just keep praying for the little one as well.

Sophie is a hero in the true sense of the word. I am in awe of her parents, they have room in their hearts for other children. Re the blood, I think I read that Sophie lost twice her blood volume. Hopefully will round up a few friends to give their first donation this week and hopefully they will make it a priority to become regulars. So often these days the cupboard is low and blood has to be moved about the country.

I heard today her induced coma was broken and she had woken and managed a smile for her Mum.

Saw her last night on Channel 7. What a darling! She really is an inspiration. Even the doctors seem amazed at her recovery and positive attitude. Her parents are amazing too... such devotion, courage and positive thinking. My heart goes out to them all.

It determines my resolve to resume blood dononations as soon as I am able to do so.
