structure, One of the great things about growing in SWCs is that you can "turn the knobs" in dialing in specific ratios of grow media to suit your type of crop and local climate. There is no "one size fits all" solution, if you want optimal results. So it will take a few seasons of trial and error to fine tune the best potting mix / combo setup to get moist wicking, good aeration, and the right set of minerals / fertilizer. BTW, one other "tweak" that I have done to my AWS is to lengthen the clear sensor tube to 13 inches. This now maintains a constant 2 inches of water which makes it a bit "harder" for the moisture to wick up into the chamber. It also will help reduce the algae buildup on the sun facing interior side walls, and the water will "churn" more rapidly by keeping the reservoir at a lower volume. In fact, one of the things that would be interesting would be to reduce the water reservoir level to about 1/2 inch, as the always-on AWS would hold it at that level. Fresh water would then constantly cycled through on a FIFO kind of basis. More fun stuff to experiment with. But that is half the fun of this hobby. Raybo

Legomom, I think the magnets that are not open to all should be listed separately and ranked separately. Because the scores are are really meaningless relative to schools that must take everyone. Of course the selective schools have better metrics. That does not mean they will do a better job of educating your son. If, let's say for arguments sake, the minimum IQ in the magnet school was 130, then you would want to compare it to those kids in an open enrollment school who were >=130, not to ALL the kids in the school. In our old town, we had a real dichotomy between Wall Street professionals and an urban pocket. My DH used to volunteer in the local High School. He said there were de facto schools within a school. One group of kids was all AP, winning national debate titles and the like, and one group of kids was struggling with the basics. Overall the ranking was still in the top 1% (IIRC Newsweek only ranks the top 1%), but if you had broken the select few off into a magnet, the rankings would have soared. So, long story short, interpret the rankings really carefully. As an aside, my sister had a friend who was locating from PA to AZ, and she wanted her son to go to one of the very highly ranked magnet schools there. She contacted the school and was actually able to find out if he would have a spot before she moved. She had to rent at first due to timing, but it may be possible to move after you find out if he gets in ... Good luck! Thank you both. I am leaning toward using World Cup for the spot in front of Blue Angel because I want "different" for this prime location. But midday sun is hard for most hostas to handle. Lindalana, I knew you had both, from the Best Golds thread, so I was wondering how they did for you. It's only a single eye field grown division, though, so if I do use it there, I'll have a long wait. But I waited 4 years for Sun Power to start looking like anything (which it never did), so what's a few more years, LOL!
