To be more specific and answer your question, after LAST frost I would put the pot outside. You are in zone 6 right? Keep in a sunny location, water well and after 1st frost follow previous advice. Here's what I include with bulbs I've given away or donated plant sales: Zantedeschia albomaculata: Calla Lily Form: Tender bulb. Exposure: Full Sun. Height: 24" (to 30" bloom). Spread: 18-24". Zone: 8-10. Flower Date: June-July. >Planting Reqs: Plant 4-8" deep and 18-24" apart when all danger of frost has passed (last week of May in ELong.). I plant those in back 4" deep and those in front 6-8" then cover all with 2" of compost/mulch. Fertilize using a 5-10-10 or 5-10-5 fertilizer. >Lifting Reqs: Lift the rhizomes after first frost, cut back stems, clean off excess soil, let dry out of the direct sun for a few days and then store in a dry location that remains between 50 and 60 degrees F. They can be divided before storage as long as the cut portions are allowed to dry. Doing so will prevent the open wounds from rotting. I use perlite in a PAPER bag. Check in late January. If rot is evident cut, scrape and clean off all rot. Coat cut surface liberally with powdered anti-fungal or cinnamon pushed firmly into flesh. Let dry and store. >Soil Reqs: Slightly acidic (6-6.5) well drained, humus enriched sandy loam. Adding mulch to the soil will help maintain a constant soil temperature. This will help keep the plant stress-free. Mulch will also improve the texture of the soil and help hold in valuable moisture. Calla lilies thrive in well-drained, loose soil. >Pruning: Remove spent flower stems to tidy up your plants and strengthen leaves and corm. >Note: Watch out for Japanese Beetles. Hope this helps. Some background info about the 'Royal Knight': It was found in Canada by J.C. bakker & Sons from St. Catherines, Ontario. It was introduced by the Vermeulen Nursery. Dennis, let me explain to your comments: Most of the time I do my home work very well before I put the info on this forum. Both cases you mentioned has nothing to do with a language thing. Picea pungens 'Thuem' is the right spelling we must use. It's a U.S. selection and was found by Mr. Thuem. Pinus bungeana 'Diamant' was found as a witches' broom at the Diamant Nursery in Duisburg, Germany. It has nothing to do with diamand... The thing is that a plant will get a name by the founder and this name must be used. A lot of German selections do have a German cultivar name and a most of these were translated in English cultivar names which was a very big mistake to do and confusions were born. Sharon, They are tropical - in their natural habitats they grow in the filtered shade of tropical forests. Mine bloomed and it was in the shade of a big elm tree. They do not like hot, dry winds, so protect them from that. Mine was a gift from a cousin in Hawaii. I grew it in a large pot for four years and it still bloomed. Last fall I planted it by the patio so I could sit out at night and enjoy its beauty and fragrance. It blooms for several weeks. The plants are now 3-1/2 feet tall. They should be taller, but we are having a drought and horribly high temps and that has stunted them in spite of my watering them daily and feeding them. Poor things. No signs yet of blooming. I sure hope it blooms this year. Annie

I think the key for both the tulip and lily is good draining soil. Poor drainage can potentially cause rot in both types of bulbs. The foliage is what technically "feeds" the bulb, although some supplement (good composted materials and perhaps some bulb fertilizer or bone meal) might help build a strong root system. Since your lily is up that tall, it might be better, if possible, to wait until the fall to move it as the stem is dying back. That way you have a better chance at getting a decent bloom next year. Otherwise, if you move, try to dig down deep and be careful of breaking the stem. You might find babies under the soil too.
