Passings - a bit of nostalgia

My mum heard this morning that US actor Darren McGaven had passed away. We both knew the name but were groping for a memory of his face or roles. That was soon solved.

But in the process, my first hit was an entertainment site that mentioned that Don Knotts also passed away last week at age 81. Now that is sad, that I didn't hear a word at the time. What a great performance he gave in the ( mumbly mumble days) when we were devotees of the Andy Griffith Show. Don was the bumbling deputy Barney Fife who had to carry his gun's bullet in his pocket as he had a tendency of shooting himself in the foot when excited. Only last year I bought 6 DVD's of the show - terrible quality, not even black & white sort of greenish, I think that's probably how we watched it back then! Simple, moral, well-written, well- acted, wholesome & funny. Does anyone else remember Andy's son, Opie, was then tiny Ron Howard who went on to become a film director? Anytime the news or current arrairs seem too depressing, we say "Let's watch Andy" and have a smile instead of the opposite.

So Vale, Don.
