Lens Help!

I have been looking to get a new camera for a while. I have a few questions about lenses, macro lenses in specific.

If I get the Olympus E-410, What lenses do I get...?

I found a set of Closeup lenses but the question is, do the close-up lenses attatch to another lens or directly to the camera?

Is the Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 DG Macro Telephoto Zoom Lens - 0.5x - 70mm to 300mm - f/4 to 5.6 - 507101 a macro lens or do I need the close up set to go with it? If you only need one which is cheaper?

I have a nikon 70-300 F4-5.6 VR and it takes pretty good pics till it gets in low light then it hunts to focus but that is what you get if you are not going to spend several thousand dollars on a lens. I would go to a local shop and take my camera in and see if you like it. If they wont let you do that then you need to go somewhere else to buy. If you are buying online go to a local store I am sure they eill let you if they have it in stock. I hvae a 18-55 Nikon kit lense and it is a F2.8 and it takes good shots but is very limited so again you get what you pay for. Dont be afraid to ask the local stores to use what they have on their shelves and see how you like them. Ritz has allowed me to do just that. Good Luck

Difference between a macro and regular lense:

A macro lens is designed to bring flat objects into sharp focus at the film or sensor plane. Examples: A painting on a wall, or a postage stamp. When making a close-up of a stamp, the edges of the stamp are farther from the lens than the center of the stamp.

A regular lens brings into focus objects that are equi-distant from the ray cross point within or behind the lens. For example, if you were inside and at the center of a large ball, the interior spherical surface of the globe could be made to come into focus on the flat film or sensor plane.

A regular lens is not a good choice for making close-ups of flat objects.

somewhere on that tractor - possibly in the cavity under the tilting seat - there should be an ID plate/decal showing the FULL model number and serial number and mfgr's name. Get that info and repost here - will help in the search for your item. Also - as this is a "public": forum - suggest avoiding posting info such as phone numbers, email addys, etc in the future.... sometimes the bad guys get to looking for such.

Catalina, you are right about a hand lens being different than a regular magnifying glass. But I can't use a hand lens. As noted in my original message, I have almost no central vision in my right eye. Albert, I do have a digital camera, so maybe I need to use it more for identifying purposes. It's frustrating to be out in the field, though, and not be able to see distinguishing characteristics there. I've also found that when I'm home, a scanner is wonderful; probably better than the camera. I appreciate everyone's ideas, but maybe there just isn't a magic answer for me. Thanks njmomma. They had a ball. Rita, we always shoot off a lot of fireworks here...when I go to the fireworks stand, the guy knows the kind I like and helps me choose for that. The second youngest (long haira0 wasn't too sure about them to start with but the three yar old (curly top) was all bou fireworks. Most of my blooms now are rebloom. I still have a couple of Murphy's to bloom yet. kay

Has anyone had the Crystal Lens implant?

I posted a message like this several years back and had no answers. YES, YES, I had the crystal lens implants with the same results as yours. Crystal lens had just come out when I had mine done and insurance did not pay for C.L. My dr. wanted to do the same thing but I just said no thank you just test my eyesight, give me a prescription for glasses, and I will go home. My optomologist, never explained to me that my eyesight might get WORSE after the cataract surgery. Sure, things are brighter, and I can see better,(everything is not as dark as it once was) but my far away vision got worse. I use to only need reading glasses, now I need glasses for all the time. My close vision is the same, maybe a tad bit better than it was. Hope this helps. Maybe I should have gotten the other surgery done that my optomologist wanted me to, but after spending $5,000 out of pocket, (insurance would not pay for CL, as it was so new at the time) I was in no mood to spend more.
