replacement lens for John Deere lawn tractor

I need to replace the headlight lens to my John Deere lawn tractor 170. I have checked on ebay and with a number of dealers and supply places, but no luck. I was hoping that this helpful panel may have some ideas for me.

Is the lens you are seeking, rectangular and made of glass? Does it say Speaker 777 on it? If so, this lens was discontinued back in 1974. Used lenses show up on e-Bay but they often bring a substantial price. I've seen a complete pair of headlamps from a parted out tractor sell for more than $80.00 on occasion.

Thanks for the reply kompressor, There is no writing on the lens. It is rectangular in shape,one long piece that covers the entire width of the front end above the grill. It appears to be made out of plastic.

Thank you. Going to go for the JD D120. Now if this white stuff would only stop falling. After this storm we will have somwhere in the vicinity of 6' to 7' on the ground and it's onlky February 1st. Won't have to worry about any lawn watering restrictions this summer.

garydewater: That's about 1/2 the price as a new one and 135 hours is about 3 years of average homeowner use (about 40 - 50 hours/year). If it is in good condition and not been abused it sounds like a pretty good deal. You did not mention what year model it is. I have an acre and 1/4 myself and usually rack up about 40 - 50 hours/year depending on what projects I'm working on. I mow, dethatch, aerate, overseed, pull a cart loaded with rocks, firewood, etc... and mulch my leaves in the fall pulling a lawn sweeper to collect them. You can usually save a bunch of $$$ buying a good used quality tractor. Just make sure it has been well taken care of by the previous owner. If it looks rough it probably is rough. An engine coated in oil, grass clippings, etc..., faded paint, cracked seat and weathered plastic components typically indicate that it was left outside in the elements and not well cared for. This has been posted before, but once more will not hurt. If you go to the John Deere Parts site you can find information on your JD equipment. http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.HomePageServlet_Alt (One string) In the upper left enter the complete model number. alphabetic and numeric characters, ie LA160. There are parts list, pictures, etc for you tractor, There is also similar information for your accessories like lawn trailors.

These decks aren't hard on belts at all. Give a look to the front guide by the engine pulley and look for where the belt may have rubbed on the outside of the guide- as if the belt was never on the proper side of the guide.

Are you wanting to replace because they are broken? Or because they have become weathered and cloudy in appearance? I presume broken, but just in case it's the other........there are products on the market now to restore clarity to plastic headlight "lenses". (Just wanted to make it known if anyone has that problem, maybe on the family car?) Check your favorite automotive parts center for these products and/or kits.

I wish that was the case. It is broken in the middle with the pieces missing.
