Unusual camera/card question

I got one of those digital picture frames and the instructions say to put the camera card into the frame and save the pictures into the frame's memory.

Is there any way to get a photo from my computer onto the card so I can put it in the frame?

btw, I have tried to send the pix from my computer to the card in the card reader & nothing seems to happen.

When you put the card in your computer's reader, can you see the card when you click on "my computer"? If so, you should be able to drag photos onto it.

Last winter I ordered from Lazy S's Farm Nursery, Bluestone, and Garden Crossings (and I always order some fall bulbs from Brent and Becky's,) and I would be happy to order from any of them again. All had some unusual plants and some more common. I think I got the biggest bang for my buck from Lazy S - plants were a bit more expensive than Bluestone, but a lot bigger and incredibly well packed. Garden Crossing was more expensive than Lazy S but they had some things I really wanted and they were lots less expensive than White Flower Farm. (Again, incredibly well packed and much bigger than Bluestone.) Bluestone plants need to be planted pretty much right away because they are in such tiny pots, so you either need to have a bed ready or plan to repot them to bigger sized pots if you plan to keep them for a while before they go into the ground. Mine from Bluestone always arrive looking a bit more battered than plants do from any other nursery I order from, though most of them seem to recover alright. http://www.lazyssfarm.com/ http://www.gardencrossings.com/ Digging has suggested some great relatively local nurseries - even if you mailorder this year, consider going to at least some of them this summer. Formatting is a fairly typical first step but you shouldn't have to do it after the initial setup. Now that you have images on the card, if you format the card you WILL loose the images. Hard to tell what's going on, might be a driver problem. What happens if you just use Windows Explorer to view the files on the card? If you can get in with Explorer, I'd just copy the images to your hard drive and then use Photoshop to view them. You could also try a friend's computer or take the card to the local drugstore, etc. and see if you can access the images there.

I have never liked pulling the card in and out compared to hooking my camera up USB, but now am doing such as I was having trouble DL'ing my camera software into my new XP computer. I have had that happen to me too to where I bought a new card etc. After use in my computer, when I turned my camera on after inserting the card, it would show No pictures or something to where I could not shoot until I fiddled around with it. So far, I am having luck as I slowly put it in and out, holding my breath hoping. I also found trouble occurred when thinking I had to use that Safely Remove Hardware from the taskbar which I don't do now. Sorry I can't help you but maybe the Photography forum may have run into that same incident if not solved here? Here is a link that might be useful: Photo forum

Standard SD card capacities range from 4 MB to 2 GB, and for high capacity SDHC cards from 4 GB to 32 GB as of 2008. The format has proven to be very popular. However, a change in the format, while allowing capacities greater than 4 GB (SDHC), has created compatibility issues with older devices which cannot read the new format. I had a similar problem with my camera, but i found a cheap and easy solution.

For reasons totally unknown to Pentax, Hewlitt Packard or Microsoft, when i plug the USB cord from my Pentax *ist DL into the computer, the computer does not recognize it. At first i thought it might be a problem with the camera software, so i extracted and reloaded the camera software, but no luck. Then I thought it might have been a defective USB cord. so I replaced that with a new OEM Pentax USB cord, still no luck.

In the mean time, I had ordered a couple new Sand Disc 2gb SD cards from Ebay and one of them came with a free USB adapter.

The SD to USB adapters are translucent plastic about 3"L, 1.25" w and 3/8" thick. On one end of the adapter you remove a cap and slide your SD card into the adapter, then remove a cap on the opposite end revealing a USB plug, which plugs into the computer. In a sense the adapter converts the SD card into a travel drive. When you plug it into the computer an LED light inside the adapter body lights up and the computer recognizes it as an external storage device or travel drive.

If you then open "My Computer" you will see it listed with the appropriate dive address, which in my case is drive (I). You can then click on the drive indicator in my computer and it will open a window and list all the files on the SD card, or you can open a program on your computer and open or save files to the drive address in the normal manner.

I have since went back to Ebay and purchased two more of the adapters for $3 each, with free S&H. I keep one in my camera bag and the other two at the computer.

Not only did this solve the original problem, I have since acquired a couple 16GB and one 32GB SD cards, which I now use for external storage of photo's, music files and data files, thus freeing up considerable space on my computer hard drive.

The only thing i noticed it that when you are finished with the external drive you should find the small icon marked "Safely Remove Hardware" on your desktop start up list (bottom right, near the clock). Click on the icon and a window appears listing the adapter as an external mass storage device. "Click stop". Ths light goes out inside the adapter and another window appears telling you it is save to remove the hardware. You then unplug the adapter, pull your SD card our and its ready to go back to your camera or to your picture frame.

According to the specifications with the adapters, they will also handle mini- SD cards, although i have no personal experience with those.
