Hi, my name is Rian. I am from South Africa. Here are some pics from my area of the world. I am not a crack photographer, nor do I have a great camera, so excuse some of the quality.

Beautiful animals and settings. Where did you photograph the big ones this close? In a preserve, or enclosure?

Reserve, Dean. Thanks for looking. The lion was in breeding park and the falcon and owl in rehab centre - rest reserve. I took a lot of pics of the cheetah, actually there were 2, which we followed (by car.LOL) in a reserve.

Hi Diana! That picture of the storm clouds is really something! Yes, we really get some rough storms here. Last November the neighboring town of Newburgh, as well as part of Evansville was slammed by an F3 tornado. My parents' house was hit, but thankfully they weren't physically hurt... although they were emotionally wrecked. They just moved back in to their repaired/rebuilt home last month. My mom's garden was completely decimated, and now she will have to totally start over. There are no trees now, so she will have a full sun exposure. She is trying to be optimistic about it, but she feels overwhelmed, as well. We've taken garden hoses and laid out the shape of the new beds, so at least that's a start. I have some baby forsythias and Rose of Sharon shrubs that I rooted for her and some perennials. In the fall we will start planting again. Hope springs eternal! :) Take care, Katrina

Katy, Logee's is certainly an adventure in itself. I've been going there for years. My first times were when Joy Martin was running it. Even squeezing through the aisles single file is worth it. So many exotic plants growing over, under and around! It's only about a 40 minute ride for me. I don't know of any other greenhouses that have that kind of variety. The botanical center at Roger Williams Park here in Providence is big and interesting. There's a $3 admission though. Lunch afterwards would not be a problem. Providence has tons of great restaurants. Maybe some others here would be interested in one of these or something else. Bill

Hi Modjadje, I agree with you wholeheartedly. Don't split off the bulbs into yet another forum! No better place to discuss South African bulbs than here. Of much more use would be a gallery attached here to this forum, so we could share some pictures, too.... Maddy hey, it is raining here in Joburg tonight, at last!!! :-))
