I have an Endless Summer in the ground, not a pot. I put it in last year but it was terribly damaged by our late freeze in spite of being carefully covered. So...I haven't had it in bloom yet and probably won't for another year and a half at least. As for the color...here's a quote: "If your blue hydrangeas are flowering pink you can make your soil more acidic using Aluminum Sulphate fertilizer. This is the best way of turning your hydrangeas blue. Using an all-purpose fertilizer like MirAcid will maintain acidity but will not change the color very quickly. To turn your blue hydrangeas more pink, add lime to your soil. These techniques will work gradually. Lime, especially, take weeks or months to work in the soil." Bear in mind that the aluminum sulphate is not a complete fertilizer and should be supplemented for the health of the plant. My Daddy used to say you could get bluer hydrangeas by putting rusty nails in the ground underneath but I wouldn't bet the farm on that one.

I don't really consider that I have a favorite nursery because I like so many and organize road trips around visiting them. I recently visited New Hampshire to see three, I had heard about and never visited before. Next year it might be interesting to keep a count of how many times I park my car in a location where plants are sold. If for some reason I could only visit one nursery, I would definitely opt to take the 45 minute drive from my home in Weymouth, Mass. to Russell's in Wayland, Mass. due to the selection of plants available. I make repeat trips there during the season. Somewhere down this list of postings, you will find a link to a PDF file that was previously compiled by New Englanders, listing their favorites places. Online, I have the same answer. I order from a variety of sites really depending on what I am looking for. A good way to learn about the best online sites is to go to Garden Watchdog, and get the benefit of the experience of all the people who have rated a vast number of nurseries. It is easier to offer insights about good websites (and good Wew England nurseries) if we know what you are most interested in. For instance, Bluestone Perennials is a great online site for someone who wants a good price on starter plants. There are a number of great specialty nurseries for specific plants, and a number that I would order from for the unusual plants I like to try. I enjoy going to the Lazy S Nursery website because of the variety and their helpful comments about the plants, but there are many others as well. Here is a link that might be useful: Garden Watchdog

The Flower Factory is my favorite road trip. Their species hostas look great right around Father's Day -- it's inspirational to see how large hosta beds are laid out. And the staff is helpful and knowledgable. I also like K&A Greenhouse; they're located about three miles west of West Towne out Mineral Point Road, and have a good variety of plants. Love their hanging baskets. After July 4, the prices start to get even more attractive. I've usually find some late season bargains there.
