I agree, do dare - it's your place to do whatever you wish, RIGHT!!! Neighbors thought I was a nut case when I punched holes in the tops and bottoms of CD's you get in the mail, put two back to back so the shiny side was on the outside and then strung them together with fishing line (leaving about four/five inches in between each CD) and then hung it from my shed roof. The sunlight hitting it created a kalidescope of colors that would swirl around. My cats loved it also as the colors raced across the ground. It was funny to watch them chase the lights.

I think they would be a magnet for germs and bacterial growth. They won't dry very well or very fast in a closed drawer, and while they're wet they'll be exposed to more bacteria from the garbage below than they would if they were drying elsewhere. Use it to store empty bags or ties, or other "trash related" items.

I think the basket is too wide and bulky for that space. I also think you should do what makes you happy. If you love the basket, put it up! If you feel the need to put something in that space, it should be rectangular, hung the long way to fit the space. Maybe you have another place for the basket. You did not ask for comments about your pictures, but I will say they are not too high. However—The bottom of the bigger picture should be level with the bottom of the smaller picture. One is a little higher. If the big picture is hung with a wire, you may be able to loosen the wire a little bit and lower it down.
