She thinks six plants is an obsessive collection? Oh my! Six only covers the very beginning of my orchid collection! And with the vast variety available, that collection will continue to grow for quite some time! I have over 55 Hippeastrum bulbs total, and that collection continues to grow! Epiphyllum total over a dozen... along with the orchids, those are only three types of plants I collect... I can't even begin to count my Daylilies and Iris, although those are outdoor collectibles... and then there are the Miniature Roses... My house looks like a jungle, my gardens are overflowing with plants, and I just keep collecting! It's a disease, really... an addiction! There are much worse things to be addicted to, though, so I count myself lucky to have a plant addiction! I joke about going to Amaryllid Anonymous meetings, but if you ever come across an ad for plant or gardening addiction and a possible cure, it could help many of us and should be posted immediately! LOL! My middle son is in college, with this being his last year... it's incredibly expensive! But, it's worth every penny spent! Without a degree, finding decent employment with a good company is next to impossible! I think my generation is the last that could get away without a college education... and still make decent money or have a decent career. I applaud your fortitude... to stick with it, and continue your education! Good luck with your orchids... and your PhD!

Thanks for the history C Markoff! My grandmother Alfrie Dixon was the inventor of the metal lampshade sold by Remington. I know my mother told me about her moving to Chicago to start up a lampshade factory and how people were lined up around several city blocks for jobs. It would have been early 30s. I'm thinking that would have been for Rembrandt as her metal shades were featured on their lamps. I can place her there in 1933 as a relative was hired and died of pneumonia in Chicago that year. My mom, Esther Dixon Siebenmark, went to the art Institute, worked at the Merchandise Mart and they lived at the Allerton I believe. Anyway I was able to buy a couple of Rembrandt metal shades this year and one of them has my grandmother's patent number engraved on it. I am saving all your news articles for my scrapbook. (you could prob move the light to the center if you like. but here are options for you: I think this is room is perfect for a swag rattan. or a pendant (but yes, move that tv and stick a nice plant in the corner) will you be having all white like shown? tons of sizes, colors and option. put a cute chair in the corner, some orchids on the rad cover, or something like this: bring in a natural color or white textured rug in fact, this cute chair, the wood stump plant stand, the wood framed art, would all look great as accessories in this room. look how they did the curtains and plants on the radiator cover some other vintage type of lighting and decor vintage stool w/plant in the corner, swag a light over that. . _ maybe a bench at the foot of the bed or maybe something like these. do a vintage type of chair in the corner. that dark wood piece doesn't fit. Two options, put track and then install some swag hooks for when you need to lift them. BUT a light that is on a pully, meaning though it would stay in place when the table is pulled out it could also be raised up out of the way and almost become a semi flush while still giving plenty of light, it would also go with the rustic/vintage style. If you continue the track I would complete the U shape and bring it around that way you have no dark spots. ( personally I would have done 2 circuit track so you could opt to have all or some of the lights on). They also make pendant adapters for track so you could hang pendants off the track and just get some cheapies to see if you like that look. I think you would over time become annoyed at having to move them up and over.
