Laura: My experience with Green Gage may not be typical. I think the tree came from Millers in NY, and I do not know the rootstock, which they do not specify unless asked. Nevertheless, it is well sited in excellent soil, and I have been pruning and shaping it for years, while watching little clusters of blooms in spring that seldom set fruit. One year it actually did have 3-4 plums, but they fell victim to surface mildew. This season it had more blooms than normal, and appears to have set some plums, but the jury is still out until they begin to really grow. I am sure they will be delicious plums if I ever get some. In contrast, a Japanese/American hybrid right nearby, actually a few years younger than the Green Gage, is covered with little plums, and will require extensive thinning. I am not really the expert to ask on plums. I pretty much like them all. Maybe your Stanley will surprise you next season, and it is a great plum for canning/preserving, but a little interior pruning in late July/early August can't hurt to expose the interior to more sunlight. Hi Everyone. I live in SWFL and and after living here for 22 yrs. have decided that I should be producing a lot of my own fruit and veggies. I grew an avacado tree from seed (it's still a baby) and a friend told me that it won't bear fruit unless it's planted near an avacado of the opposite sex where it can polinate or it needs to be grafted? I know nothing about this and could use any advice on what to do. TIA

Cuke plant looks like it has a severe case of powdery mildew and maybe even spider mites - can't tell for sure about them from the pics. But given all the interveinal chlorosis they were nutrient deprived before the PM developed. That plant is likely not salvageable at this stage. The yellowing on the tomato plants combined with their retarded development and the leaf roll indicates over-watering along with nutrient deprivation. Neither is of a size to begin bearing fruit. So what, how much, and how often have you fed them? Dave

Wow Silica, that is great news! I was basing my assumptions on a thread from a few years ago in which someone had waited 10 years for fruit on their TC… Folks were discussing differences in fruiting age having to do with seedlings versus grafted plants, and how mature the scions were, from what I gathered. But I'm going to take your word for it, and get myself a TC this spring... Thanks
