I am looking for some unusual or different lilies. I have large and small upright elephant ears, as well as colocasia 'Illustris' to trade. I also have 1-2 eyed division of hosta Blue Mammoth and multi-eyed hosta 'Hirao Majesty' and 'Red October' available. Whatcha got? Sally Here is a photo of the large uprights...

New to these myself, my best Stargazer was a nursery purchase with two stalks. Guessing it went 18-20" but made a nice porch accent in a 12" tall pot. (Bulbs went to mush over the winter in the pot.) I started some small Stargazer bulbs last year, box-store cheapos "Color in a Bag" sound familiar? Anyway they all grew and each bloomed a ragged, mis-shapened flower (again potted and with minimul care). As mentioned above, they were very late to bloom. I was satisified considering the minimal investment. Popped those in the ground for the winter with higher expectations for this season? Just my experience, hope it helps. ~Wes

You're right, once you have your eye in you can tell an asiatic leaf (narrow, grassy, lots of them) from an oriental leaf (broad, glossy and relatively few in number) every time, as well as from those of a trumpet (narrow but longer, larger and less numerous than an asiatic). Some other lilies also have bulbils - that's how L. bulbiferum get's it's name. Others will produce them if the stem has the flower buds removed before they open - useful for propagating something.

Check out the Lily Garden. They have a great selection of lilies. Off the top of my head Aphrodite is a double pink though I don't know if it's available from the Lily Garden. White butterflies is a lovely, long blooming lily. I usually get a month of bloom from it, though it takes a year or so to really establish. Hope this helps.
