Arriving at the Caribbean end of the Panama Canal at sunrise

I guess I should have noted that my early morning Panama Canal photo was taken on the Pacific side. People on the ship got up at 4am or 5am to watch the approach to the canal. It was pitch black out when we went out.

Watching the sun come up on the what to this West Coast girl looked like (but really isn't) the West was quite interesting.

I was disappointed that on our trip we did not go through the Panama Canal. We stayed on the Caribbean side. We did however get to take a shore trip to the Gatun Locks on the canal, and got walk across the top of the lock and tour the control house, which just about noone gets to do.
