I have added the borders to complete my Baltimore Album top that took almost a year. I don't even want to think about how long it will take to quilt!

That is just lovely. I wouldn't look forward to quilting it, though. I'm sure it will turn out beautifully.

Agreed. Door panels to finish the island make a big difference. Don't worry about the faucet (you don't have a choice anyway), you'll be looking at the finished door panels! Pet peeve of mine: When they measure for the door panels, have the panels on the long side cover the edges of the panels on the short sides. Example, if the island is 60" wide, and the panels are 3/4", have the panels total 61 1/2" and have the 24" side panels 24 3/4" to cover the edge of the cabinet doors on the business side of the island. That's if you're doing frameless cabinets. I didn't read the whole thread - if you're doing inset, the sizes are different.

Boy, toolgranny, that's a breathtaking quilt! Kate, what an interesting technique. I do most of my appliqué by starch turning from the right side, over freezer paper (or a plastic template) to the wrong side and then pulling off the paper (template). I'll give this new technique a try as soon as I get my stems stitched down. Thanks for the inspiration. magothyrivergirl, thanks for linking to that interesting object. Not the least what I had imagined but more elegant and, I can see, effective. Isn't the internet a wonder!? Anyone, anywhere can find such an interesting and unusual object. And just maybe this sheds some light on your equally interesting screen name. ;>

Kate, This will be such fun! I will do a little research and select a block to start with and yes, we can compare notes. I am by no means an "expert" and I just do it however I think it looks best. I know that I am capable of doing much better work than what I do, but like anything this is really a process that you need to practice and keep at it to get better. I am primarily self-taught (my mother doesn't sew, knit, crochet, or do anything crafty, so I did NOT learn from her!), but I just go with what "feels" right and try to do the best I can. But I would be more than happy to provide whatever instruction I can to help "ease your pain" (to borrow a line from that Kevin Costner movie about the baseball field in the middle of an Iowa cornfield that I cannot recall the name of right now). So, count me in girlfriend! And rivergirl, you can join in, too! The more the merrier! And even if we don't make a bed-size quilt from them, or even if we don't like what we make, we can have a ball laughing about what we HAVE attempted to accomplish! [as an aside: I make cakes, but I am by no means a rolled fondant artist! I am self-taught in this area, too, and that's how I learned: by reading books, watching anything I could get my hands on, and just practice, practice, practice! Some things turn out well, and others don't; there is no harm in the things that don't turn out. I just figure that if I'm great at buttercream and lousy at rolled fondant, then I can stick with buttercream and be very happy because there are lots of people who do rolled fondant, so plenty of work for each of us to handle!] Odessa

Hilary, that's not overboard at all - I take pictures of all other crafts that I make for gifts, so why can't we take pictures of our albums? That's exactly what they are - they're works of art that can never be duplicated. I actually have a small photo album (one of those cheapy ones stores used to give away with photo processing) with pictures of all my quilts I've made, plus another with all of the cakes I've decorated. These are things I don't see every day (and the cakes are all long gone!) so I want some remembrance of the work I did. Not overboard at all. :) Patti

Incredible!!! What a gorgeous quilt. I can fully appreciate the time spent on it, but it is well worth the effort for the beauty of it. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful. I can only dream about making something as lovely. I would so like to do an Album quilt but just not that proficient. I am so glad you finished and showed us your great accomplishment. Have fun quilting and be sure to share when you finish. Jayne

This is one of those quilts, that a hundred years from now, somebody is going to take carefully from a trunk and say "my great grandmother did this". I cannot even comprehend the amount of work this took, and can only say it's astoundingly beautiful. I was very taken back by how young you are, when I saw your picture.

It is beautiful. And I applaud your bravery! I would like to start a Baltimore Album quilt but I've always been afraid I wouldn't stick with it long enough to finish it!
