Weekend quilting 8/21-8/22

I can't believe it is Sunday evening already! I did not get much quilting stuff done this weekend other that marking 400+ rectangles with diagonal lines so they will be ready to sew this week. I did find a box of cone thread with a dozen cones for $1. There is one that the thread feels funny on - it was used for sewing sweat-shirt fabric and seems thicker and rougher than the other threads. How about you, how has your weekend been?

I also didn't get much quilting done. About an hour ago I did get out my accuquilt machine out and cut 24 more triangles for my butterfly wings. I only have 3 rows left,I am also going to embroider antennas on and may do some daisies also we'll see. I am debating if I want to do the "quilt as you go" or sandwich or regular. I shall see what mood I am in. I've been hit by allergies and that's been slowing me down.

I haven't done too much either. Our town has a big music/craft festival this weekend to celebrate the town's birthday so we spend much of our weekend downtown listening to music. Last night's headliners were Earth, Wind & Fire (and all music events are FREE!!!) I did finish my center square for the Round-Robin & make 3 birthday blocks - only one left for my group for the year.
I need to take two rows off a quilt (I put them on the ends instead of the side .... oopps) and redo them ... maybe just the tearing apart tonight.

Probably no sewing here, either! We have both our moms here for 10 days and MIL sleeps in the room that I use to sew in. We had friends over for dinner last night, today we worked a pancake breakfast, then came home and began the domolition of our fence. The fence company comes Monday to start the install on the new fence and we wanted to save a little $$ by tearing out the old one ourselves. Then the rain started ... and we are about 2/3 finished and it is pouring, hailing off and on, and thunder. Yuck/bummer! DS came over and is helping install a new garbage disposal, then if there is time, he will help with a new garage door opener. (It sounds like our house is falling apart!! - Guess that happens when they are about 20+ years old!) Tomorrow DS&DIL and Moms will go to church with us, then we are out to breakfast. Hope the rain stops and we will finish the demolition! Maybe I could do some hand quilting ... just a thought! Happy Mother's Day to everyone! Sue

I may get into the sewing room for a bit tomorrow. I'll post a pic of the lap quilt I finished in the nick of time last weekend. I'm still quilting one of the Lotto winnings wall hanging. I know it's been forever since I received the blocks. I decided to stipple, something I've never done, with matching thread color in the blocks, so it is start and stop to change the thread. Freezing cold here also, but drove an hour (in unexpected almost white out conditions) to see the traveling display of the Downtown Abbey clothes. Then had lunch at the Studebaker mansion next door. It was a lovely day.

I hope to get to my machine this weekend. I need to work on an applique row for my neighborhood guild meeting next week (we had all summer to get it done and I haven't started yet ...) We have an event at the university tonight and Sunday morning our Lions club is serving a pancake breakfast for a walk, so that will take a little time. No big excuses - just procrastination! Sue

Great news, Linda. Caroline, I'm right there with you...fed up with cold weather. It's suppose to get to 19 degrees tonight with snow flurries on Sun and Mon. I should be out gardening like crazy...can't...so I'm inside quilting like crazy. I'll have all the colored squares done this weekend, hopefully, and cut the white sashing strips. I was going to save this for the quilting bee after cutting, but I couldn't help myself and have sewn up the squares. Two of my kids share a birthday tomorrow, one year apart. We'll be going out to dinner to celebrate. They'll be 43 and 42. I can't believe it. I think I'll have a crisis when they hit 50.

I haven't done any quilting either. My DD, SIL and my grand-dog were here all weekend. We had a very enjoyable time with them. Yesterday we decided to go the local Mexican restaurant for dinner. When we got there it was closed for a family reunion. We thought we would get take out from there today before they left, and again it was not open. So much for my meal planning!lol

Not much sewing for me either. Got one birthday block in the mail and I did get the replacement part for my replacement sewing machine. I got it put together and gave it a test run. Doesn't seem to sew as well as the last one, the thread keeps breaking. When we get back from our anniversary trip I'll give it a nice test run. I have 8 tops ready to be quilted.

Even though I worked a lot around the house (cleaned and scrubbed gutters, washed car, weeded back of house), I did manage to get in a few hours on the machine and put a few leaves on my current applique block. My dh is getting over a head cold and I feel like it's my turn to catch it. Can you tell school is back in session?!

Sue, I love Earth, Wind and Fire. I bet that was a great show :-)
