Winter swiss chard went to seed while I was away. Over 9 ft. tall. Lots of clean up to do in the garden. Its a jungle up there. Elvira and DH are for scale.

A hibiscus recently seen on Oahu while we were there.

Kittyw, I don't know much about plants at all, but that looks a lot like my friend's Confederate rosebush--see how the leaves are shaped like those of an hibiscus?

Kittywhiskers - I have that rose. It is Hansa (1906). You can tell by the very distinctive leaves.

The distinctive leaves mean it's a Rugosa (the leaves are rugose). Hansa is a likely possibility. I don't how accurate the colors are in the photo (the leaves look very light on my monitor), but Roseraie de l'Hay is another. And there are more.

alisande, I think Roseraie de L'Hay is closer to mine than aptosca's Hansa. Mine is a little darker than what the picture shows.Thanks to both of you I had thought that it might be a Rugosa but wasn't sure.
