Not sure if you were meaning that you might try thinning to one vine per hill, but that will actualy increase your chance of success. If you want to be extra cautious thin toi two vines per hill, then once you have about 2 feet of growth, just pick the 'healthiest' looking one and simply cut the other off and toss it.(Transplanting is generally a bad idea with most cukerbits at this point.) With limited space, you could try trellising too. And yep, you can do it with watermelons, even big ones, if you stay on top of it during the critical fruit setting period. There are a few options there. A good one is to take some hog or cattle fencing and cut it into 8-10 foot sections. The make some "half cylinders" kinda like little bridges out of them. Train the vine up into this "trellis". The important thing is to begin carefully training the vines with decent fruit sets back to the ground beneath the trelllis. What this does is it allows the foliage of the melon plant itself to shade the fruits very nicely beneath the trellis. You don't need a fram for the wire trellis in this situation, as this cattle of hog fence has enough 'body" to support the foliage anyway. YOu can also go to a "full trellising" situation if you build a strong trellis and use slings. I once had a pumpkin trellised to almost 12 feet in the air, with 20-40 pound pumpkins hanging in slings. It was quite a conversation starter, heheh. Anyway, the first 'system' mentioned works very well, and will allow you to pretty much grow 3 vines in the space you would normally only be able to get 2, and even get better results with bigger fruits if executed correctly.

We really need a picture...or 5 or 6. There were a lot of music box makers....as I understand the cylinder ones are older than the disc ones... Is it key would? or crank? Is the cylendar replaceable with a different one? Does one cylinder play several tunes? And perhaps the tune will help date the box. Usually the boxes are marked other than on the comb. Linda C

when we built our house 6 yrs ago, it was with the intent that we would be living there until we retired. Things in our life have changed dramatically since then. At this point, there isn't anything we are going to do to put in a shower, though I guess its possible. There is 6 inches of empty wall space at the front of the tub where the niche is. You could take that out, rip out the drywall and extend the plumbing to make a shower and finish it off with cement board and tile. There is no way we are going to do that. We do have a hand held shower mounted to the tub with the roman faucet that I use all the time for washing my hair, the dog, and rinsing the tub. 2 of my husbands sisters and their families have tub/shower on the main floor, but all go down to the basement to shower. Now that makes no sense! chisue -- sounds like your tub has airjets? Ours isn't. We do use a water softener. I don't know what we could do to prevent the flakes of whatever coming off the pipes. I would want a soaker tub next time instead of the jetted tub. So..... may the chips fall as they may... not spending anymore money on this house.

Wozer - y'all sure know how to make an old lady happy. Thanks a zillion. GIBSONA: I used GE II for the crosses. As I've said b/f, I rarely use GE II, but for special items, it's the only thing that works. Everything else was glued w/Weldbond. My DD likes it so much, she is designing a piece w/three crosses for me to make for her living room. Happy days are ahead. Since I'm on a cross kick, I found a very tall plank (over 5" wide) in the garage yesterday, and cut it and put together - y'all ready for this - a 5" tall cross. Now I gotta figure out what to do w/it. Decisions, decisions, decisions.
