Do you have to worry about how long regular mail will take a box to get within four states of you? I've learned something today, thanks! You are still using Priority mail, but you are instead just paying by the pound. If you are going to do much plant trading it really helps to have a digital postal scale so you always know what it the best value...by the LB or Flat Rate. You can usually get a good cheap scale on Ebay for $20 or less (including postage) and it will soon pay for itself in the $$ saved. I use it too to weigh bubble envelopes, so I never have to guess or put excess postage on them, just to be sure they are not short. This is a robust variety, at only a 2' spacing you will soon have density. Just wait a bit for them to grow. Fruits are the result of flowers being fertilized. Flowers never grow from fruits, anymore than babies giving birth to adult women.

Spider mites wouldn't be my first thought. A disease is more likely and the webbing may simply appear on dead parts of the plant which are no longer protecting themselves. Confirm spider mites by the distinctive mottling on new leaves, and ideally by knocking off some mites onto a piece of paper. Scab is a common disease of Pyracantha. It is a fungal disease and either infects new leaf buds causing blackening and death of the new shoots, or it can infect the flowers or fruit buds causing blackened and dead flowers or fruits. It is relatively easy to control by fungicide spray but you might want to search out a resistant cultivar rather than spraying several times each spring.

I am looking for tall-growing pyracanthas, (at least 8 feet tall) with deep red berries (as opposed to orange, yellow-orange, or even red-orange) I have seen great variation in the color of the berries within the singular variety: graberi (from orange, red-range to red). I was told that in colder climates, the berry becomes a deeper red. However I took a couple of plants home (we live in a considerably colder climate and have not noticed any darkening of the berries in a few weeks) I am curious if there are different cultivars within the same variety? Thank you...Lori
