Cool pic, I like it.
Just a personal thing but I would like to see the canton displayed in the upper left...flip it and have a see.

Interesting thought. And, I bet you're right. Know of any way to do that in Picasa? Being cheap, that's where I do most of my editing.

Staffordshire Dogs How old do you think they are

The thing is, "real Staffordshire" can be all sorts of things. Staffordshire is the name for a district which has been a center of pottery making for hundreds of years. Spode is located there as well as many other potterys. During the mid 19th century a pair of "Staffordshire spaniels" was one of a number of popular items produced by the potteries. They were the common person's answer to fine porcelain figures. Then in lateryears they were reproduced both by other Staffordshire potteries and other potters from other places. I suspect the fine example you saw sold for $75 was such a repro.....and I suspect the OP's pair is really from a carnival probably in the early part of the 20th century. The reason I think that is because of the strange sort of slap-dash glaze....reminds me of certain chalk carnival prize ware I have seen, but the OP said they are pottery not chalk.

Do you think *boxspring* mattress are old technology

I would do a lot of homework as mattresses have changed the past few years. Fell in love with a Simmons Beautyrest myself a few years ago. Didn't even get the pillow top just the plush top. Bought the top of the line. Less than a year later, there was a big crater where I slept(130 lbs). Because of new flammability standards it is very hard to find anything other than a "no-flip" mattress. They say this is for your convenience but in truth it is just cheaper to put the higher grade safety material on just one side. Without being able to flip my Beautyrest it isn't possible to get even wear. Same with Serta, Sealy and most others. I was able to order a Doctor's Choice from Denver Mattress last year that they still had in the warehouse that was flippable(is that a word?:-)). They no longer make them either. When we were shopping for the first one we thought a saleman was just handing us a line when he told us to stay away from no-flip. Now we are wiser. And Skypath is correct. I would never buy a pillowtop, plush is as soft as you should go. Even with a mattress that flips.

Amazing Old house! What do you think?

The taxes are in part based on the current total assessed market value of $974,667. Since the house is already listed for $100K less than that, you might be able to have the taxes reduced. It's worth a call to Orange County's real property tax service at 845-291-2490. As for the house itself, have a thorough inspection by a qualified inspector. Keep in mind that while the house gets city water, it has its own sewage system that should be inspected by a pro. Get copies of the heating bills. I bet they will be horrendous.

Do you think I can sell my old granite?

I frequently see it on craigslist down here in So. Fl. The problem is someone have the same layout and being able to use the dimensions you have with the same cutouts. If you price it really well, then it will allow someone the ability to have it re-fabricated if necessary. If all else fails, donate it to a Habitat Re-store and take the tax deduction.

Not Picasa..Open it in Paint..click Image then Flip.Rotate..dot in Flip Horizontal...click OK...click File and Save As(give it a new name) don't use Save as it will replace the old image.

Looks great, way to start off Memorial Day Weekend.

Today the casualty remains of a soldier flew to the base to be buried. I am guessing he is from the Tucson area. We went out to the flight line to salute the soldier, show our respects to him. We weren't expecting the family to be there. I was not prepared for the sorrow and anguish expressed. We were about 100 yards away fromwhere the family meet the casket, you could see and hear the emotions. It was hard keeping my bearing during the salute when the flag and hurst passed by, I just can't get that moment out of my head.

I haven't had to worry about deployment the last three years since I have been teaching the new recruits. Brought a little perspective back to me, now that I will be headed back sometime in the future.

The President sent out a message asking for the American people to have a moment of silence Monday at 3pm. I hope everyone can block sometime out of their day to participate.

Thanks Joan.

And, Zitro, thank you for a very concrete reminder, especially for this weekend.

Debts we'll never be able to fully repay. Our armed services are in my thoughts and prayers every day. Best of luck if deploy.
