Put an exercise bar on the wall opposite the island.

Put wax paper on the island edges so she'll fall back each time she jumps up. Eventually she'll get the hint (at least while you're there)

Lower the island so she doesn't have to do all that work to get up there. OR don't put anything on the island that she might want to see, smell, or taste. How would you like it if she started a project on top of the refrigerator and you didn't know what she was doing? I'll bet you'd be climbing up there to see, too.

Try a Scat Mat. They come in 6-inch strips as well as full size mats.

Put the baking dish on the floor....? :-)

I LOVE THIS! And the fact that you caught her/him in the act is just classic! Dogs are really such resourceful animals - and they do want to be involved in our every day lives. You just need to get her a chef's hat and put her to work ala Ratatouille!

Here is how I solved the counter-surfing, trashcan-raiding problem: Tie one end of a piece of string to a piece of dried up bagel with, say, a dab peanut butter to make it smell good. (Dried up because you don't want the dog to be able to get the snack easily and be rewarded.) Now, tie the other end of the string to an aluminum can which is at the bottom of a small pyramid of empty aluminum or tin cans, pie plates, etc. Drop a few coins, or nuts and bolts in a few cans. Now leave the room. When Fido grabs the treat, he/she will create a noisy, scary avalance. Didn't take but a couple of times with my dogs. Good luck!

You know, I'm impressed - ours only does the paws-on-counter thing and hopes he doesn't get caught! He's a complete and total quiche hound. And soda crackers. Also obsessed with anything chocolate which is soo not ok given the doggie reaction to it! That said, the first year we were in the house my DD - then 7 - left her Easter basket on the sofa and he got most of it. Didn't even have the dignity to throw up or get "dire rears"! Just proves how rotten most chocolate is here!

Oh my! I have six inside dogs, including two Labradors, and thought I had problems. Your dog, pardon the pun, "takes the cake" or lasagna or whatever it was. My breed of choice is Cairns. Thank goodness they're short little suckers. No "Cairns in the casserole" around here. God Bless Ya!
