I would love one of those, it is so real. I have sold most of my dolls but have several babies that I have kept. That is odd for me to do, I never liked baby dolls, but there were 3 or 4 I could not resist. I took a newborn doll to an aunt's 80 birthday and people thought I had a real baby.

Hi Vala55, No, he is a vinyl doll. Years ago when this craft first started, they were made out of play dolls who were then taken apart, paint removed, hair added, ect...And completely redone..that's why they called them reborns. Now there are doll kits specifically made for this, but we still call them reborns.

Thank you! Joan, yes, it is an expensive hobby to get into and even with practice it can take a few weeks to make one. It really depends on how many hours you work on it at a time. Last night I spent about three hours rooting a portion of a doll head, and I only got less than a third of it finished. And once finished, I cross my fingers and hope I can sell it at a price to recoup what I've put into it, and hopefully the time spent working on it. Then, THAT money goes right back into the hobby buying more kits and supplies. It's a never ending circle. But I like making them and seeing the end results.

Through the grapevine on a doll board I belong to, I have heard that the lady in that documentary now makes reborn dolls herself. And is very good at it! And the young girl that made the doll to look like that womans grandson got a lot of orders for dolls that she wasn't able to fullfil. She ended up going bankrupt and still owes a lot of money people put as downpayments on dolls she promised to make.
