wow, now that you guys say that, You're totally right. I'm surprised I didn't notice it before! I was curious about the roses in the front because I liked the color variation (paler center, darker pink outer) unfortunately there are very few photos of Pink Simplicity on HMF, so it's kinda hard for me to tell based on that.

sounds like "rodney davey" to me. if that's the case, the variegation becomes less distinct as the season advances. it's a nice little plant and seeds about happily, but not so much as to be a problem. i think it is suggested that it's a form of v. japonica. perhaps someone could shed some light on that?

Hmmm ... I hadn't heard this negative information on electric + tankless before. I think I'm passing this decision off to my engineer husband. Gotta be some benefit to marrying a tech-y guy. Yeah, this dog of mine is a laugh a minute. He's blind (from birth, he doesn't even know), and sometimes I can't help but laugh at him. He was sleeping on my bed but suddenly developed an intense desire to be at the other end of the house RIGHT THIS MINUTE ... so he jumped off the bed and came tearing down the hall, only to bash himself right into the hall closet door, which is rarely opened. In his defense, he couldn't have known that I was rooting through it. He really clocked himself good on the door. His immediate reaction was to go into defense mode: Fur standing on end, snarls and growls -- Who attacked me here in the hall? Come out! I'll fight you! Poor fellow, it can't be easy to be a blind dog.

When rooting ZZs it's not necessary to leave them in water for months.

Neat! You were hiding the petiole and leaves in the first pic, heh heh. Very clever. I've seen the tubers before but they're usually brown/gray (or maybe just dirty from the soil). I don't think I would ever have guessed. Your rooted cuttings look great! I love ZZ's too--they're my default gift plant for non-gardeners (home warming, hostess gift etc).

I've rooted them from single, individual leaves but the plants take forever to become presentable since they only make one or two leaves at first. Using a stem/petiole looks like it produces something more substantial sooner.

Great job and fun little mystery. You stumped us, heh heh.
