Little Alex is home

Little Alex is home now.His condition has not improved but he is doing well under the circumstances.His Grandad said yesterday that they are going through the same routines with him as before he got sick.They read to him,play his favorite songs,watch is favorite videos and interact with him just as if he was aware of everything.And who knows,he may be aware of everything going on around him! They take him to his playroom every morning and play with his favorite toys with him.They say they can tell when he is "awake" even though his eyes are closed.The physical therapist will come in 3 days a week and they said he moves his arms and legs and twists and wiggles his body.He is still jabbering and making other noises.He goes back to the doctor in 3 months for evaluation.

This is so heartbreaking for all of them.Even more so with Christmas and mom being pregnant.My friend showed me the Christmas card from them that she got today with a picture of the 3 of them that was taken right before he got sick.Such a beautiful,healthy little boy.I think of Ashley's friend that was in the car wreck and recovered and little Xiola and I know Miracles do happen.Please continue to pray for a miracle for this little one.

Of course I'll continue to pray for that little guy. I hope being home helps him. This is so heartbreaking.

AWESOME! i love hearing of kids who are happily excelling in sciences! college costs will always go up, hopefully the university uses them to further education and the status of the university's programs. my dh has been fulltime at Univ central FL since 2007 and tuition has gone up 25% w/ another 15% increase for this fall and it is still nationally ranked as a good buy in colleges. his mechanical engineering program has tremendous industry support (both $$$ & thru teaching) so we are o.k. w/ increases. the univ has gone from 5th largest in this country to 3rd in 2 yrs, plus the engineering dept is nationally well ranked, very important for future jobs. in the long run when you are in programs that can all but guarantee a very high salary, the costs to get there are fractional. my dh has now known 3 yrs worth of graduating friends and not a single one had to go to graduation w/o atleast a couple of job offers to choose from which is in the end the most important result of education IMO. you should be very proud, his successes reflect very well on you mom! ~ liz

I love Paso Robles, but we don't go there often enough. It's great for shopping for olive oil and wine, and the restaurants are excellent also. It has a very nice small town feel, much like Sonoma did 40 years ago, and Paso has over 200 wineries in its vicinity.

Another update.Hope everyone isn't tired of hearing about this.Talked to friend just a bit ago.As I said earlier they are going about as normally as they can with Alex.They had put a bed in the guest room for mom and Alex because she wasn't able to lift him out of the crib.They said he was very agitated in that room so they moved the bed to his playroom and he has been very calm ever since.They can tell when he isn't happy.Today he opened one eye and looked at mom when she picked him up and did it again when his daddy picked him up.He is moving his legs and feet and reacts when he is touched or moved or picked up and held.We all know that all of this could mean nothing,that it could be just involuntary reflex or it could mean that he is actually aware of what is going on around him and able to react.We just have to believe that God has a plan for this little one!
Another thing I need to clear up.I said in the first post about Alex that he was taken to the ER and sent home but it wasn't the ER.They took him on Friday (after Thanksgiving) to his regular pediatrician and he was the one who said he was probably just getting a cold or virus and sent him home.They called this same doctor several times over the weekend telling him what was going on with Alex and were told not to worry and if he wasn't better by Monday to bring him in.They took him back to same doctor Monday morning and he was the one who called the ambulance to his office to transport him to the hospital.Someone asked earlier where they live.They live in Wichita Falls,TX.
