Have to brag a little bit about Alex...

he got a small scholarship from the University of Kentucky soon after he was accepted to their school. Then yesterday we found out he got a little bit more from the physic's department! I'm really proud of him. Now, if he can just make a high enough grade to pass the upcoming AP Physics exam.

Bad news on Lexington's news site today, the U of K will increase their tuition. ) : The article said the state is increasing all the state school's tuition. Like it's not expensive enough already.

You have done such a good job of raising your kids.
Not only am I proud of Alex, I am proud of you.
And in physics, too. Great.
(DS's best friend in high school went to Cal Tech and is now a astro-physisist doing research in Switzerland.)

Lots of work but you are very blessed to have such a wonderful garden. It is quite sad to see the flowers bowed down to father Winter. However, seeing snow on roses has its own magical appeal. I think it just makes those of us who have winters more appreciative of the growing season. There is nothing like seeing the snow melt and your roses growing and blooming. It is magical and quite an honour to see nature's handiwork.

Thanks for the article. It was very informative. I tried to look up pictures of them and I also looked them up on ebay, but I can't seem to find any that look like mine at all. Does the chair that I have look original? How would I be able to tell if it is an original or a reproduction? There appears to be no markings on it at all.

AWESOME! i love hearing of kids who are happily excelling in sciences!

college costs will always go up, hopefully the university uses them to further education and the status of the university's programs. my dh has been fulltime at Univ central FL since 2007 and tuition has gone up 25% w/ another 15% increase for this fall and it is still nationally ranked as a good buy in colleges. his mechanical engineering program has tremendous industry support (both $$$ & thru teaching) so we are o.k. w/ increases. the univ has gone from 5th largest in this country to 3rd in 2 yrs, plus the engineering dept is nationally well ranked, very important for future jobs. in the long run when you are in programs that can all but guarantee a very high salary, the costs to get there are fractional. my dh has now known 3 yrs worth of graduating friends and not a single one had to go to graduation w/o atleast a couple of job offers to choose from which is in the end the most important result of education IMO.

you should be very proud, his successes reflect very well on you mom! ~ liz

That's great Kath!! I have to agree that I am wowed by you (as a single mom).. you do such a great job giving your kids great opportunities (travel and the exchange students). Patting Alex and YOU on the back!!
