Buying digital camera help....

I am looking at two different digital cameras.

Kodak EasyShare C713 and Kodak EasyShare C813

I couldn't find a link to the C713 model.

I went out early on the day after Thanksgiving

and bought the 713 and it was wrapped and under the tree.

Yesterday I got a sale paper that listed the 813 at

the same store (Walmart) and at the same price.

Only difference I can see between the two is 7 MP vs 8 MP.

So I am considering exchanging the 713 for the 813.

What do y'all think about this.

From what I understand the higher MP isn't that important unless you plan to print large size pictures. The zoom is more important. I have heard that a 3 to 4 megapixel is fine for up to 8x10 printing. Maybe someone knows more or different than me!

true about the MP. A bigger concern is shutter lag time. Nothing is worse than having to wait an eternity, or what seems like it. to take subsaquent pictures while waiting for the camera to write the first one.

There is a wealth of info and personal endorsements at www.dpreview . com. Evwey brand of camera is covered as well as great forums to ask questions.

Jitterbug, you know what I did? I bought a little camera card/disk/stick reader so I don't have to hook my camera up to the computer, I just take the little card out and put it in my reader. My all-in-one printer (printer, scanner and fax combined) has slots for camera cards too. It was so much easier for me to do that than goof around with the camera. You just access the cards like you would a CD or DVD you put in your hard drive. Here's another thought ... did you download the software for your camera onto your computer? Every camera needs specific software downloaded from the manufacturer's site. It helps your computer read your camera and will provide you with step-by-step commands for transferring the pictures onto your computer. You can download the software for your computer at the link below. Once you download the pictures to your computer, you should be able to upload them to Photobucket. I hope this helps! Irma, Since you do not have a home computer, you might want to look into a camera that prints directly to it's own little cradle / printer. Consumer Reports has an article this month on the best ones for various purposes. If you don't have access to Consumer Reports and want to see the article I could either fax or email it to you. But generally, for your purpose, just wanting the best basic camera with printing option without a computer...I think the Kodak one was highly rated. I suggest going to Best Buy, they usually have the best prices and will price match legitimate ads, and you can easily exchange in case of defect.

Thanks, folks, for the assistance. I took the camera to Walmart photo dept., and found that the card was damaged - they replaced the card and the camera is working perfectly.

"User-friendly" is kind of hard to judge. There are features that make a camera easier to use -- like a tilt-out LCD on the back. There are other elements to consider: do you have any other electronic devices that use Sony's Memory Stick storage technology? If you do, you may find it more "user-friendly" to find a camera that uses the same technology (Compact Flash, Secure Digital, etc.) so you're not investing in technology you won't use elsewhere. What kind of battery does the camera take? IMHO, it's more user-friendly to use AA or AAA cells which you can find anywhere instead of buying a proprietary battery that only the manufacturer will sell you. I know that kind of confuses things, but if you think about the features on the cameras you've handled that you really liked, some user-friendly features will become more obvious to you. All that said, though I now own a digital SLR (Olympus), I had a Canon PowerShot that I rather liked. It took surprisingly good pictures for a P&S and I tended to leave it on Auto, which was good enough even for some shots of fireworks (!). It was relatively easy to use, and had plenty of features I did not use -- nor did they get in the way. Canon sells several models for the price you're willing to pay; I'd look at a couple more.

I wouldn't worry about the MegaPixels either - I am on my second Kodak EasyShare now and I love the Kodak camera - my second one is actually a bit lower in MegaPixel than the first, but it has a closeup feature which is awesome. Why don't you contact the store and see if you have a return option on the first one, that way you could try it and if you don't find it meets your needs you could exchange it for the other one?

Thanks for the info and suggestions.

I was poking around on the Kodak website
and found that both cameras use the same manual.
So I guess they are the same camera except for the pixel count.

I will find out tomorrow if it can be exchanged.
If so great, if not I will be happy with this one.
