Saw something today that really bothered me

I was driving by a house today in our town and saw a little mixed breed dog that appeared to be malnourished run out into the road into the oncoming lane in front of my car. A couple of teenager boys who assume live in the house were out by the road with the dog. One of the kids grabbed the dog to keep it from running into my lane - after I passed I looked into my rear view mirror to make sure that he got the dog out of the road. To my horror rather than putting the little dog down gently - the boy flung the little dog through the air like a basketball and it landed on the ground beside the road. I couldn't see if the poor little thing got up off the ground since I was moving past them. I was mortified and wanted to go back and confront the boys, but I was afraid that it would make things even worse for the poor little dog. It has been on mind all night. I KNOW there is a special place in he11 for animal abusers. I don't want this to become a post filled with posts of similar incidents that people have witnessed. This one is more than enough by itself for me. I just had to get off my chest.

Every town or county has an Animal Control Unit. Call now and report this abuse at once. You witnessed a crime. Now do something about it.

I think they should be reported too..

I hear all the time that people who grow up to be killers, many have started out abusing animals...Not to say all will but if you report them, give the address where you saw it and a discription of the boys..Maybe they need some help....Well not much Maybe in my mind...they DO need help.

AND you just might save that little pup.

Ooh, I hope not, Christie! But, it is supposed to dip into the high 30's at night for a couple of nights here - no freeze, just brrr cold. I'm glad you guys are seeing the butterflies in Missouri now. I cannot believe the pearl crescents I'm seeing! And the Goatweed Leafwings are still around, too, as well as the Tigers. Saw a few CWs, too. I wonder what is drawing the PCs, other than the dandelions. I have very little to nectar on yet. Just the wild violets (I think it is sororia), dandelions (they like those), and the big viburnum that belongs to my neighbor but leans into my yard. It seems to draw the butterflies, too. My Rues are ready to support the BSTs and GSTs when they show up, too. Milkweed is the only thing I'm lacking for the time being. Hopefully next year it will be up and growing by the time the Monarchs get here. Susan

I haven't seen the commercial - but I think it was nice of you to send them a polite email asking them to feature a black cat or dog in their next commercial - can't hurt to ask! I know whenever I have foster kittens and they are ready to be put up for adoption, the lighter ones always seem to go first. We had a fabulous little guy, he was personality plus. He was all black with tuxedo white markings and wonderful long white whiskers... I called him Puss N Boots. He eventually got a home, but he was the last to go of his litter. Statistics do show big black dogs are the most prevalent in shelters, but in ours we have way more brown mixes currently and far too many pitbulls. Yesterday alone we got in 6 dogs, 5 of which were pits and 1 was injured, yet was as sweet as she could be. But pitbulls are another topic for debate I guess! Sher

I made a vow when I was nine and had an unsuccessful lemonade stand that, when I grew up, I would stop at every lemonade stand and buy some which I do to this day. Just to see the kids faces is so worth it although I had one little guy who asked for a dollar and I told him I only drink lemonade that costs 50 cents so he said "okay" and I gave it to him. Often I empty it out the window but they never know lol. I think there are lots of people who do these things.

A lot of things can upset us and for each of us it'll be different. Sometimes things can be said innocently and it will be taken wrong or someone will be offended or whatever. Sometimes it's intended to offend. Sometimes people are jerks and stupid. This guy isn't worth worrying over. Don't torture yourself over it. Make a game out of it! Start thinking about some good comebacks and truly make a game out of it, like I should have said yes I had to grab it quick before you shoved it into your mouth with the 17 OTHER pieces you've helped yourself to! Or I couldn't see it with you grazing there in the way. Or whatever else you can think of. I've always tended to bite my tongue, but I'm getting more crotchety and started to fire back a little bit. Wish I'd do it more! And Jannie, for that comment, I think I'd be tempted to pat down all the junk they had out there! No, I'm sure I wouldn't... but it's fun to think about isn't it? :)

Please--call animal control, the police, anybody....

I would hate for the poor puppy to be brought to a kill-shelter, but a humane eutahnization would even be better than a lifetime of abuse by those uncaring animals/humans.

Call Animal Control and then the local police. You witnessed a crime. Jeffrey Dahmer started out abusing animals early in his childhood.

Please call sipsy. It just breaks my heart to know how many abused animals are out there. Those kids need to slung through the air!!!!!!!

I don't like to see animals abused.

But - I don't like to see people abused, either.

When upwards of a million people were killed in Rwanda in something like 100 days, in 1994, we said that we were not going to stand for such to happen again.

But it has been going on in several parts of Africa, including the Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo ... and Sudan. For years.

And what have we been doing about it? The killing and systematic/purposeful raping of many thousands. And pushing hundreds of thousands out of their ancestral lands.

Pretty well ...

... nothing.

Doesn't say much good about our vaunted humanitarianism.
