Gee...it doesn't sound like anyone I know!!!

A 21.5 quart and above will handle a double layer of pints, though with the 21.5 quart you could have issues with some of the taller pints. In other words, I have a large collection of Ball, Kerr and Golden Harvest jars. Generally the Kerrs are shorter and squatter than the Ball jars and work better stacked in the 21.5 All-American. Just so you know that would be the minimum size to accomodate two layers. If you're occasionally doing smaller batches that might be the more efficient option as far as size is concerned. Some people also purchase an All-American as their principal canner and then buy a less expensive Presto as a back-up. Then, when they have a lot of canning going on, they run both at the same time. I'm pretty good at poker...better than my DH. But I have a great story about his luck. Back when we were first married and he was still in school and working co-op, he called me about a Red Cross benefit that he saw advertised. Admission was $25 per person. They were giving away a free trip at the top of every hour. I believe there were 3 or 4 trips total. I told him 'No, we can't go...it's just too much money for us right now'. An hour goes by and he calls me again and say, 'honey, we HAVE to go. I had Chinese for lunch and my fortune cookie said that I would soon be crossing great waters'. He sounded so excited, how could I say no. When we got to the event, the head of our local Red Cross was greeting people. My DH went up to him and introduced himself as he went on and on about how he was going to win. He told the guy about his fortune cookie. The man looked at my husband with this 'I'm not sure what to think of you...you nutball!' My DH was and is quite a social butterfly and at times very flamboyant with his stories. So, we hung out with our friends, had some beers and made fun of the winners who went crazy as their names were called and they ran screaming up to the stage. Around 10:30 I thought it was time to go. I had to work the next day and I was getting sleepy. I said, "Mark, we're not going to win...look, there must be over 1000 people here." And he held up his fortune and said, "there's still the trip to Ft. Lauderdale left and I'M GOING TO WIN IT". I rolled my eyes. We decided to find a table and play some euchre to pass the time. As we were playing we heard our last name (a very unusual ethnic name) and it dawned on all of us. We won the last trip! I got up and jumped up and down and probably screamed more than any of the other winners. DH went up to the stage waving his fortune cookie. You should've seen the look on the Red Cross guy's face. Total disbelief. Well, it makes for a good story. We had a grand time in Ft. Lauderdale....then stayed another 4 days in Lauderdale-by-the sea!

Here is ear full.... I found a new still in box double burner electric Hotplate. It sure came in handy while I was apt hunting and living in a motel while I was in community college. There has been dozens of other things over the years that I have found. One time a crushed watch with real jewels ( like rubies, pearls and opal's ) and a few diamonds that I sold for $50...I think back now and realized I was cheated as the jewels and diamonds were worth much more but I guess I needed the money. Found a $20 in grocery store, bought my daughter a school jacket with that money. Have found a ten here and a five there...on and on I could go. So many other things I have found that I could write a book. Bought a purse once and it had $9 inside...the purse was a buck. A dollar pair of pants that I found a ten inside the pocket. Bought a real leather coat at a thrift for .25 and found a whole pocket of change. Have dug up gold rings with my metal detector, watches that worked and other types of jewelry. Found $36 wad of bills on floor of Walmart isle, ( no name ) turned it in to the manager with my ph #, someone called claiming it and I gave directions to her to come to the house and pick it up....no thank you after I handed the money to her. Found a Disney trinket with a name, called and the father came to the house and said his daughter had lost it and he was nice, no reward though. When Sams Club first opened I found a pkg of two in a cart on the very far end of the parking lot, there wasn't anyone around so I didn't feel guilty. Another time at Sams I found two huge rolls of A. foil, again no one around . I found two full bags of groceries at a Winn Dixie shopping center on the other coast of Florida, t but I took it inside the manager took my name and said if no one claimed them within a couple of days it was mine. I remember there was a beef roast, chicken and canned stuff. so it was a lot of groceries I found. He called me to come pick it up. I think God had a big hand in that as He knew I was poor and hungry during a difficult period in my life. Found two twenty dollar bills but it was 2 separate times, wind blown money on ground outside. Ten dollar bill in my drawer where I keep underware only..nothing with pockets in that drawer. Odd. Not very many losses except one I will never forget, someone stole quite a sum of money out of my purse while I was in Beauty College.
