I would ignore that advice and use as many as you feel comfortable with. When I built mine I drove one in every two feet. I don't think more would hurt...just not sure it would help either. The important thing, I think is to firmly mount it to the foundation...it's the only thing keeping these light structures from blowing away...:) I love mine, BTW. Dave Milwaukee

Caroline - your description sounds like me every night. I just love sitting out on the porch after the day is done listening to the night sounds and just drinking in all the serenity. It is how I wind down at the end of the day - many nights it is 1:00am before I can get out there because of my Mom. I need to get her settled in for the night before I can have that peace of mind. I have gardenias, moonflower vine, confederate jasimine, daphne all planted near the porch for that year round fragrance. I have not gotten any tea olive ....yet... it is on my list - lol. As for todays events - well lets just say my Financial Advisor and I talk on a regular basis now. We have been hit but not too hard as I have a very low risk tolerance and he has me allocated very well but it sure is a scary time - take care everyone and just hang on tight...... Lynne

The Woods Hole Library is holding its plant sale this Saturday. They're always looking for plants, including the common ones that transplant well. The sale features some donated flats of annuals from local nurseries but also divisions of some uncommon plants from local gardeners. I usually have flats ready to go but a family situation has prevented me from doing much of anything in the garden so far this year. Bill, there's probably a similar event near you, and if you look at fliers on community bulletin boards or a local paper you're sure to find it. Or, you could always pot up your extras and come down to Woods Hole early early on Saturday morning. They always welcome people with experience to help the new gardeners make selections. I usually bring my small 'Taylors Guides' so I can show people what the plants look like in flower. The down side is that no matter what you've donated, you still have to pay for whatever you want to pick up - at least I think that's how it's supposed to work. Come to think of it, I never asked for a freebie. I've gotten some great stuff at this sale, but I'm not making any promises about what it will be like this year!

BSF suck! (pardon the pun) The negatives far outweight the one plus (efficiency at pre-composting worm food). The negatives: they act like schizophrenic psychopathic drug addicts on bad speed trips with severe cases of spastic, involuntary and uncontrollable flight patterns who like to get right in your face while hovering about an inch from your nose and performing zig-zag maneuvers as if they're trying to decide which of your nostrils to fly into...all the while making ear-splitting buzzing noises like ordinary, cute little house flies amplified to the intensity of infinity. And that's just my experience long ago when a few of them got into one bin. I can only imagine how disconcerting the experience would be if someone encouraged them to co-habitate a once peaceful worm composting operation. I'd imagine mandatory ear and nose protection...as well as a healthy disregard for the unintended consequences of creating a safe haven for the monster of the fly kingdom in your immediate surroundings, or community. That said, I can't say enough about my disregard for the intentional infestation of a thing of beauty like a working worm bin with these flying environmental disasters.
