I was wondering if anyone here deals with Peripheral Neuropathy...Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy or just Peripheral Neuropathy and if so, how you deal with the pain. Do you successfully use any particular pain killer?
I have a friend with it......she uses ice a lot and carries a little cooler with freezer packs in it. Her doc recently started her on Cynbalta, an anti-depressant which also helps with pain. She says she is doing much better. I am sorry you or a loved one has to deal with it.
Yes, I do have it and probably am one of the luckier ones, in that I have never had pain. I have extreemly hot legs (like wearing knee socks...Heated) and most often sleep with them outside the covers and at the same time when they get really cold, it takes forever to warm the feet up. When overly warm they itch and I walk the floor. Many years ago, when it was "new" I took Evening Primrose Oil via capsule, and it helped....does not anymore. Recently I tried Amitriptyline, also an anti-depressant; Oh how well I slept. However heartburn came on very slowly, then severe and when I picked up 2nd prescription..first side effect listed was heartburn. So no more wonderful all night sleeps and I'm tired much of the time. The ice works, but when it is so cold in the house, those ice packs just make you shiver so I just keep gently putting lotion on my legs instead of scratching, then cool wash cloth. It is really odd too, that my legs and feet while "numb" are extreemly sensitive. No creases in my bedsheet and no bumps in my shoes. Not fun, but it could be worse. Nanny
My pain isn't that bad - yet. Funny, it's only on one side. My little toe and also on my pinky, on the left side. I have lots of other pain in my legs, but not sure what it's from.
Keep the ideas coming. I hear so many stories and have seen so many people in pain that I'm a little nervous that my time is coming. One thing though, my foot was pretty bad once and I started massaging it, at the nail bed. I also use some very good moisterizers, and that seems to help. Right now I'm trying not to take anything as all - everything kicks my stomach so I end up taking Tylenol, which isn't good for you either. Plus it only takes off the edge, but not the pain.
Lurker here, but felt compelled to share some information that might help. I am an LPN working in a nursing home. So many of our clients have the painful toes and heels and complain of the bed sheets and blankets putting pressure on toes and heels. We have plastic blanket risers but they often still are in pain. We use Ora-Gel. You know the teething medicine for baby's or tooth ache gel. It requires no permission from their family or Dr. and quickly numbs the toes or heel. We've used it on fingers, toes, and any part of the foot that seems painful. hope this might help someone. simpleme
