Geeze you guys are tough old birds. We have acorn issues. They are so thick we rake them up and get them by the five gallon bucketfuls. The mower does not pick them up, the critters cannot get most of them, they kill the grass if left, if they get stepped on and pushed into the ground the squirrels dig holes looking for them, they are so thick you cannot walk across the grass w/o slipping and possibly falling. They are so plentiful it seems like they should be good for something and we too would LOVE to turn them into a cash crop. For all the work they cause, they should be worth a fortune. I could be planning new hosta purchases but am stuck picking up acorns for hours each fall!! The frustration is in the eye of the beholder to be sure, but give a guy a break!

Yeah, Dave, a few of them got hit while outside for hardening off. Luckily I had some spares in the house under lights. Roundup works like a charm but people don't understand that it's carried by wind to the neighbor's gardens. It even tells you on the label (who reads that!) to spray on a still day for that very reason. Too bad it's televised so much, everybody's using it.

For Windows 7, you can also just type in "mrt" (no quotes) and it will bring up the MRT. A box will appear asking if you want to allow the program to make changes on the computer, just click yes. Ok, a more serious response from me. I think anything that is more rare or more specialized means that yes, the potential for problem is greater. Some examples: that amazing fancy huge geode slice that you're using for a counter is something that your average fabricator is unfamiliar with (and it's something that even the $$$ specialized fabricator sees infrequently), your highend high BTU range requires a different gas set up and a dedicated outlet (despite the fact that the only electrical parts are the light and fan) and your GC has installed a zillion ranges, doesn't need to know this info, disregards the instructions and the gas line is in the wrong place; your european faucet renders your home warranty guarantee on water pressure void because it uses non-standard fittings, etc. Most of these have actually happened to me (no, I don't have a geode countertop!) so I do think that the non-run of the mill items that we choose (which can tend to be expensive and rare) can cause more headaches. People just tend to have less experience with these materials and sometimes these rarer and more expensive items are such because of their difficulty to install, come by, etc. I think ways to counteract these possible pitfalls are to be as knowledgeable as possible by reading and researching, to be on top of your contractors and choose them based on their reputation checking references and using yelp, angie's list, etc. (esp. if acting as your own GC), to communicate that you want to be involved in decision making, to make sure you understand your contracts and to have money set aside for when such issues arise. (And maybe also realize that there will be compromises, that your favorite item might be discontinued, that people are human and make mistakes and that your newly sprouted gray hairs make you look more distinguished!) Whatever the thing is....if she gets rid of it, she will be overun with squirrels. They are terrible to get rid of.

I think I'd let the creature stay...lol

Boy she sure is one brave woman...I don't know if I could go up there looking for it.

I think her DH is smarter than her! LOL Though I am sure if it was me I'd want to kick his butt! I laughed at her taking the batteries out of his remote control! Thats one I filed away in my memory in case I need to use it! Bwaaahaha

I'm not too sure it's a fisher cat. She lives in Mississippi, and they aren't usually found that far south. I'm thinking a bobcat.

Also, rabid raccoons will kill things like that. I just hope they find it and get rid of it.

YUCK, there is no way I would let that thing pooping and peeing in my attic. As for the squirrels, I would definitely go over the attic with a fine tooth comb looking for access points.

I would beg, borrow or steal, okay maybe not steal, but I'd find a way to get the $1,000 to get rid of whatever it is. That is frightening.

There is no way on this Earth I would be rooting around behind the walls in the attic with that creature on the loose. Hubby is a wuss. I would be reversing his batteries too. LOLOL

I had a creature problem in my attic under the eave over my bedroom last year but we never found out what it was. All I know is that it snarled and hissed and bit my cat on the neck and scared the bejeezes out of me when I heard the noise and saw Lucy's tail puffed out as big as a duster. LOL Whatever it was came in through a loose roof vent and went out the same way. I had it fixed and haven't heard any footsteps or things knocked about since. I blocked off the door to the eave so it couldn't get out into the main attic room where I store all my things.

When I first read the ebay thread my first thought was some kind of cat because my old cat Beau used to take the heads off of rabbits and squirrels. He didn't eat them, just caught them and decapitated them. That is the reason I keep the cats I have now inside the house and don't let them out.

Trish's tale did make me laugh though. My creature made so much noise, knocking things over, etc it sounded like I had a ghost in my attic but everytime I went upstairs to check out the noise I didn't see anything because it was happening under the eaves. I wish her luck.

I bet its an owl...I too have an old house 1700 we have a metal roof.Just a mouse running sounds big.I also read a book when we moved in here it was talking how people in these precivil war homes thought soldiers were in thier attic...,(ghosts.)It was the metal roof moving.
