Share a winter picture or two

The sun decided to peek out a little while today! The sparkle on the tall ice covered grass was glistening. Such a beautiful sight. I didn't have my camera of course.

Taken yesterday, youngest dd with an icicle and another picture she took near the barn. Good advice,,, don't stand next to the barn while its defrosting! (or under a tree for that matter)

I've seen some great winter pictures at the kt over the years. Do you have one?

Ewwwww I feel that barn pic dripping on me!! Brrrrr! Thats good advice to stay away from it. BTDT!

Oh, the grass is no problem. We just dig it out in the spring and put in a lot of aged manure. We have horses, so we have plenty of, um, fertilizer. I'm thinking of putting the asparagus, where the grass is, since there's a slight slope (we have clay soil) and I don't mind the view being blocked from the road. We just like to keep the view open to the creek. All my arches and arbors were on sale/clearance at Fred Meyer. They have great garden stuff. I don't work there, but I love their garden department :) Loribee- Your garden is so pretty and well organized. I wish mine looked that put together! Jrslick- Wow! Your gardens are just amazing.

Gorgeous Creme de Cassis blooms! Did they need staking? Drooled every time I saw photos when perusing seeds online. I waste more time perusing seed online when I should be doing some actual work on gardening. I'm trying the smaller Queeny Purple in deck containers for next year since Hollyhocks would be mowed down by critters around here. Hope the Hummingbirds like these as well as the standard variety. Thanks for beautiful pics.

Hey there, you folks with frigid digits. We are in the 40s going to a high of 50s today. Down to low 30s next two nights. I took some pics yesterday, and must say a few are holding up well. I did not get close to Bulletproof, but it seems to be exceptional at durability in a variety of climates. I caught Autumn Frost looking good, even with the white on the leaf. Its potmate American Sweetheart turned orange of leaf. I have my older Doubled Up looking great beside Journey's End. The Yesterday's Memories is now golden but not down and out. Its mama Squash Casserole is still crisp and fresh looking but with a tinge of color change. The same for all the other sports of this beauty. Then one of my plantaginea still is green. Mostly I am harvesting seedpods, and I brought in about 5 new batches last night, including some of Elegans and Frances Williams. Would it not be fitting that FWilliams open pollinated seeds turn out to be perfect of leaf? She spent the whole season this year in all day sunshine, with only a brief bit of shade. And lots of water, of course. The third hosta in the pot, Albomarginata, failed to put up any seeds. The one I received identified as WarPaint continues with two huge green leaves. Then a streaker named Justice is totally outstanding. Both my gifts from LOTG, Sally&Bob and Dorothy Benedict are holding their looks as well. I sure hope they set lots of fat seedpods next year. They are surrounded by fragrant hosta. No construction going on today, due to the rain. Everything is topsy turvy but it is quiet. I'm dreaming of a cozy finished home by Christmas--weather permitting, of course.

It's a warm 66 outside, but that will change Sunday. High of 44.Bedroom ac is on!

lol Ron! A guy has to go where the slopes are! I see it ended way to soon too.
Nodakgal has a mini hill too. Time to find the sleds.

Okay ...

Here's hubby trimming branches from a tree that, because of the weight of the ice, was leaning heavily on our cable line (we get our internet through the cable). When the weather warms up a bit, he's going to take the whole tree out. This is the 2nd time it's been damaged by ice.

And here's a shot of ice on a tree by the back porch. I didn't venture off the porch today! The red rooster is a little weather vane that spins in the wind (except when he's frozen solid)

Ah,yes,I remember my 1st 38 yrs. in NE OH & SW PA. I remember, as a kid, my dad getting an icicle hitting his hand requiring stitches. I remember black ice, SHOVELING, sliding through stop signs, tires frozen to the pavement. I've been in the south for 20 yrs. and it would take about an act of God for me to move north again. It was (unusually & WAY above normal) 82 here yesterday (but a cold front came in & knocked us back down to a below normal high of 58 today.) And it sure doesn't feel like Christmas. I LOVE the pics. I miss how pretty it is with snow and ice. But I sure don't miss slipping in the driveway and wrenching my back. Y'all are a HARDY bunch! I've wimped out.
Hope ds4 wasn't hurt.

our overall damage at that side of the house got a little bit worse, but overall, it just means Mother Nature helped a BUNCH where we were going to take a tree out soon anyway.

Kathi - that brings back memories - we spent several years in San Diego while DH was in the Navy - one friend and I went wading in the ocean in January - we did have sweatshirts on, but shorts - seemed so odd to do that.

The pictures are beautiful but I will stay here in central Arkansas where we don't see much snow--if we get anything its ICE and then it would be a situation like Moni's except we don't have the camping equipment to help us out like she does!

We got stuck in a snow storm several years ago and it wasn't good. We live about 25 minutes from "town" and it took us about 5 hours to get home. Arkansans are not known for their driving-on-the-snow-abilities!

This was taken Friday evening.

And, of course, I have to include the Harry Boy. Wes has dug tunnels so the dogs, especially BeeGee, can venture out for their potty breaks.
