The snow is so deep here

My little Bischon, Sushi, loves the snow but it covers up his butt. I am out there saying "Hurry up and go potty" and he just looks at me like "How can I go potty when the snow is so deep?" Tomorrow I will take pictures of him when the snow is even deeper. My neighbor with a snow blower cleared my driveway and walks this morning and now there must be at least 8 or 9 inches of new snow.

I know Linda.....I've had to go outside twice to shovel out the area by the door, because I can't open the door to let the dogs go out...and it needs it again. AND the big part of the snow hasn't hit us yet. It along with 40 mph winds are coming.

I am starting to worry about the garlic I planted. Two large beds 30x20feet with garlic every 6 inches! More worried about the potential of rotting in the ground. Veilchen, good call on trying to get the snow off your beds. I like your spunk and determination. Although, I dont own a snow blower, nor am I back in Maine to have access to getting the snow off my garlic beds- I wont be back till April. Iam gonna try and be more optimistic though.

Jay, If our temperature were to get as low as yours today, my overwintering tomato and peppers plants (and flowers) in the garage would freeze, so let's hope that doesn't happen. Woo hoo! I just checked the thermometer and we've made it up to 32 degrees. Now that it is up to freezing, let's see if it can make it up to 40 degrees. If we get up to 40 degrees, I'll drag the plants outside for a little sunlight. I had listened to Dr. Forbes' severe weather discussion on The Weather Channel the day before the tornadoes hit but I don't think it sank into my brain how closely it would start to Oklahoma. When I woke up yesterday, the tornadoes were occurring and the eastern edge of OK still had a tornado watch in effect until 8 a.m. Those storms were too close to some of our forum members for comfort! I'm glad your friends daughter was safe. I hope and pray we have a better weather year in 2011 because it sure seems like 2010 had a lot of really deadly weather. That's one thing about a country as big as ours...there's so many kinds of killer weather in various parts of the country....just about everything you can imagine. Having lived in TX and OK all my life, I share your belief that even in a "good" weather year, we'll still have our share of weather-related tragedies. The calmest weather years I can think of all had one thing in common....developing drought. When developing drought is occurring, we often have less rain and less humidity, so less flooding, lightning and tornado-related deaths. However, if the drought develops into a serious enough situation, we have wildfires which bring their own issues. The yellow stuff is PINE pollen Socks...it's so big that it's not supposed to bother peeps meaning it can't get up your nose...but it does...I was outside most of the day on Tuesday and felt soooo gritty when I came in...It's like working in a dust field and you know that can't be good for ya! This morning the count was 5695...it rained just enough to make a yellow mud mess...COME ON RAIN...We need some more to wash this stuff outta the air!!

Julia and Brad, it snowed lightly again last night and we are in for more snow tonight into tomorrow, lasting all day. I think we're supposed to get another 5 inches. My guess is Julia you are getting more too. School has already been cancelled once and probably again tomorrow, which my grandsons love, but me, not so much.....they stay here with Gram and beg to go sledding....lol. I don't really know what the snow totals were from the last storm because there was already some snow on the ground from another front.....but it was enough that the ski areas are operating and this is the earliest they've opened with 'natural' snow. Our state and towns are expert at keeping the roads clear. They do an excellent job with the main roads. My road, not so much (because it's rural). It's supposed to get even colder mid-week with another blast of frigid temps. Stay warm everyone!

We just went out and it's really coming down! Not too terribly cold, though. Supposed to be zero visibility tomorrow morning.

Linda, my younger daughter always had to clear a path for her dog Cloe, cause she wouldn't squat otherwise. :)

Moni, no snow, just cold and wind.

He's still pouting because we didn't even get one snowflake today after all the hype by weatherpeople for the past four days.

His snowblower still sits in the garage ... waiting.

It was over 35 years ago ... but I have a good memory ... plus, I sometimes kept daughter's mini dachsie that she inherited from her mother, 4 and 5 years ago.

I try to keep the path clear on the deck so I can use my grill as often as possible in the winter :-)

Also, last year, I tried snowblowing paths for the dog in the back yard and it worked like a charm and made 'cleanup' a lot easier.

Wow, it's really blowing and drifting here this morning. The back storm door will only open halfway. It's impossible to say how much it has snowed. Some places the ground is bare and other places have waist deep drifts. I don't think a single school is open in southeastern Minnesota today. It's 10 degrees with a -11 windchill and they say we've already had our high for the day. A good day to stay inside.

Central Iowa....and most of Iowa is closed today! We have had gusts up to 47 mph!! Temp is 7Â° right now, low of -7Â°F tonight! They are saying that we have about 12" of snow...but the drifts are multiple feet high! I don't think we will be going anywhere this morning...for sure! Luckily Dean can work from home and my boss closed the office yesterday.

Kalie has to shovel a little trail for their dogs to go out on...otherwise they wouldn't be able to walk! Another reason I like cats better! LOL

Sushi discovered this morning that my back deck keeps snow from getting under it. The perfect place to squat. I opened my back storm door last night just before I went to bed and it pushed the snow back. Luckily, it was easy to open that door this morning. Not so much with the front door. If I want my newspaper I will have to go out the back door and around to the front.

Oh, silly me. I thought I would have a morning newspaper on my front step. Not gonna happen.
I phoned the post office and there was no answer. Last blizzard we had in 07, we didn't have mail delivery then.

Boy am I happy that ND somehow managed to dodge the bullet on the snow this time!!!!!!
-8 at 1 pm though.

Stay inside everyone! Hope the furbabies do alright in this! I always feel so sorry for my little dogs when its cold or storming like this, they pee on 3 legs! LOL Take turns holding one leg in the air the entire time they are out.

Ah, a good old fashioned Iowa blizzard. I'll have to admit it is pretty looking out the window and it still is snowing and blowing here in the NE part of the state.
Must say we are a hardy brunch of folks to stay here in the winter.Or crazy !!!

It's supposed to get down to -7Â° tonight. We got between 10"-12" of snow and 45 MPH winds last night. This is my DD's driveway, and my DGS Jayden.

Oh my!! You poor peeps!! Here in MO we had howling winds (so much so I had to put earplugs in to sleep... I was so worried about our Faux snowman in the front yard.. didn't want him blowing away). Just a dusting of snow though for us.

The snowman survives. :-) He is about 6 foot tall, although he doesn't look that large in the picture.
