Could use some positive thoughts

for the baked rice pudding that is in the oven right now!

My mom always made this on Christmas Eve. She didn't leave a recipe - I don't think she actually had one. I knew the method though and right after she died I made a very close version of it (from a soul food dessert cookbook!) It was so good and so reminiscent of her rice pudding that I made it again and took it to my dad's when I went up for the funeral. Everybody loved it, especially my dad.

So, my sister asked me to bring it for Christmas Eve and I am hoping it turns out as good. You know how things go when you make something for a special occasion, even something that has never failed before. I wasn't crazy about the rice - same brand as last time but it wasn't as white. It had a lot of black lines which is just part of the rice and nothing bad but seriously - why do things like that happen when you're cooking when it counts?

The worst part is that I can't taste it after it's done. It's a baked custard. I won't know how it turned out until we serve it.
