They are usually with the spices. I bought an extra large bottle at Atwoods, but I would not do that again as they seem to have gotten rancid before I used them all. I use them in making the FIRE CRACKER recipe.

Yes, you'll find them in the spice aisle of your grocery store. However, if you really want high quality, fresh spices (including sesame seeds), and have the time, I'd recommend ordering from Penzey's. Their products are the best and freshest I've found anywhere--and so much cheaper than grocery store spices.

You do want to be careful about not storing sesame seed too long--it's high in oil, and will go rancid as the poster above mentioned. If you won't be using the entire bottle, you might want to freeze the remainder until you need it again.

Try a bulk food store.

Some farmers, mainly on the Prairies, I think, grow them by the barrel-full.

They'd be glad to send you a package, I'm sure, at not high cost.

They do add an interesting flavour to a number of recipes, and the oil is great.

Maybe if you ask some farmers' co-operatives, you may be able to find a producer. And if you can find consumers wanting a total of five pounds rather than one, it would spread the delivery cost.

Store surplus in at least the frig, better the freezer, as they tend to go rancid.

They are in the Asian food aisle in our grocery. With the soy sauce, hot mustard, sesame oil, stuff like that. I like the toasted sesame seeds.

I found some in walmart in a small jar for almost $4. Are they that expensive? I never seen them on the asian aisle

You'll find better prices if you try a spice market, Penzey's or a farm/Amish market. I just checked their website--for $4.70 you can buy a pound of white sesame seeds from Penzey's (that's a LOT of sesame seed--they also have smaller quantities, of course). Or a half pound of black for 4.25.

but yes, if you buy at a supermarket, you're going to pay premium prices for most spices. And you really have no way of knowing how old they are. They may have been sitting on the shelf for months, or more.

McCormick, probably the most popular spice brand found in grocery stores....carries Sesame seeds, in the small size jars.

Or your local health food store.
