I just soak the bottles in hot soapy water overnight which will loosen most of it... then rub the remaining with lighter fluid (or Goo Gone will probably work at that point).

I have great success with wd 40. spray and let sit and if need nne be use a razor blade, then wash in soapy water.

Soak in very hot water first. Then try and scrub with a scraper and baby oil.

Believe it or not..I use SHOUT (the laundry stuff). Depending on the glue used on the labels..sometimes hot water makes them stick harder. If they've been through the dishwasher that may be the problem.

Wash in soapy water, scrape as much as possible with a knife, or the edge of a spoon, and then finish the rest off with steel wool.

Have them soaking in hot water!

If above suggestions doen't work, Goo Gone will. (I bought it at Lowe's or Home Depot, no specialialty store or anything.) We bought it when we had new windows and the stickers wouldn't come off (aggrevating as he!!) It was recommended by the window guy. Works like a charm - I use it all the time cause Ken saves various bottles or jars to use in the garage and basement. The magic happens in about 2 minutes - but sometimes you might have to scrape once and then apply again and scrape again, but it has always worked for me.

Ohhhh! Woodie's post made me remember when we moved in here, there were stickers on some windows that would not come off. We used acetone. Most nail polish removers have acetone, but some are acetone free.

I'll second the recommendation for using acetone. It works like a charm. DO NOT USE ON PLASTIC OBJECTS.

Most nail polish contains acetone but it can also be purchased as straight acetone in higher concentrations. Use common sense when using it - no open flames, ventilated room, ect.

I usually have good luck soaking them and then using a Scotchbright pad on the adhesive. A good sharp razor blade (preferably in a holder) will take most of it too, then use the Scotchbright. GooGone is good and there's another called DeSolv-It that is good too. Vinegar sometimes works. Lighter fluid is often effective. Usually it's best to try to take the label and adhesive off at the same time rather than the label first and then work on the adhesive. Sometimes hot water IN the jar will loosen it and make it easier to scrape off rather than putting the hot water outside. That way the label will hold onto the adhesive while you scrape it off.

Once you get the paper label off, use nail polish remover. It's easier on the hands than acetone.

Spray it with Pledge. The label comes right off.

Baby oil has worked for me.

If you first score across the label in a tic tac toe pattern with a knife or razor any of the above methods work faster.

hot water always works for me... scratch it a bit and soak in hot water.... then scratch off rest with fingernail.

Goo gone should work, but the jar has to be dry--no water. Apply, let sit a while, then put on a few drops of dish detergent and scrape with a knife.

I use a product called Goof-Off and haven't found anything it hasn't worked on. I believe i got it at lowe's. It comes in a little can like the old lighter fluid cans. It talkes off labels, crayons, magic markers. It's made in the USA and has a web site.

All but one came perfectly clean.

Smucker's must have a powerful glue for their labels.

Last one clean! Now I'm ready to fill with pickled pineapple that I have cooling.

I tried Goo Gone. Then rubbed with oil, let it sit a spell, and soaked in hot sudsy water. That worked.
