We go to the same church frequently, so often see each other for a short time. He's good company.

Well, I don't even want to talk about the winds (35mph) and high swells we experienced today on a whale watch cruise at Catalina Island. And, to make things worse ... no whales. :-( The ride over was incredibly rough. We were supposed to circle Catalina Island once we got there but it was too choppy on the back side of the island. So many people were sick that the captain dropped about half the boat off at Avalon to recuperate, the real brave ones stayed on board. I stayed on board, not because I'm particularily brave, I just wanted to get my $115 worth. We putted along the front side of the island, found a few dolphin and sea lions but nothing more. The captain apologized and dropped us off in Avalon for a couple hours of sight seeing and then we headed home. The trip back (26 miiles, ~1 hr) was nice and calm (in comparison). My DD (age 22) had to take so much Dramamine (plus she wore my SeaBands) that the moment we got home she crashed on the sofa and went sound to sleep. Rough day on the seas in Southern California. i am not an A/C fan, even thou i live in sunny hot orlando, but i would never ever do this. i already know for fact how this works. yrs ago DH allowed his father to move in w/ us because he could not care for himself and his dad paid the electric bill. well his dad promptly signed up for this 'energy saving' program and the A/C was off from 8am-6pm...well since i worked 5 days a week on 12 hr schedules & i was gone 15 hrs a day LOL but it took forever for our townhouse to get anywhere near 80 at night. it would have been even worse if i was not working outside in the blazing fl sun all day and 80 was long sleeve temps to me lol. here we are in the mid 90's from may thru nov so it can get quite hot in a house w/o A/C by 9 am for most people. we do the averaging program and save $$ on it. dh pays utilities and is lucky i'm comfy at 80-82 during the day w/ ceiling fans running and 74-75 at night :-) he was miserable at our old house w/ that energy program his dad did. atleast i know we'll never do that in this house. i don't believe it saves you much $$ when your A/C has to run extra hard trying to cool down a hot house in the evenings, not to mention the wear on the A/C ~ liz

I spent 12 years at the telephone company. I worked directory assistance,and then long distance, I also helped with keeping the directory up -to-date and with keeping track of the hours everyone worked. I stayed home for a couple of years and when DD started school. I was bored and started working at the University of Georgia part time. Eventually, had part-time hours and full time work so I went to full time. I worked for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education. We provided cont. Ed. seminars for attorneys. I was an Event Planner officially but didn't plan the events. (go figure). I got the programs after they were over. I was the person that everyone went to when they needed something done yesterday. I retired May 1, 2010 but did go back to work in Feb. & March to help out during their busy time. It was nice. I was just part-time again and just had to go do my job and go home. No responsibility! well said Mona..we all have lives and sometimes they get in the way of our postings...it certainly doesn't mean that we don't care and there's hardly a day go's by that I don't think of you and the battle you're dealing with...I'm right there with you and together someday...we'll look back on this and do a big ole sigh...Motherhood sure is hard sometimes isn't it?

Iva Mae gave me a lovely gift, as well.

She'd prepared a nice plate of Christmas goodies, cakes, cookies, etc. to give to friends.

It didn't seem relevant to give it to the people that she had in mind ...

... so she gave it to me.

Plus - I got a bonus.

There was a second plate just like the first, same story, same destination.

Thank you, Iva Mae.

I'll take it to our Christmas celebration tomorrow, so several of us may enjoy it.

As for what we ate ... they had some lovely Christmas cake, plus cookies, at the coffee hour after church.

I took in several trays of the tomatoes that have been ripening for about a month.

But some are looking a bit bedraggled, so there was not a substantial demand for them.

I'd planned to take them to the two churches that I attend a week ago, but got a call early on Sunday morning saying that due to the snow and blowing that church in the village was cancelled.

I thought that I'd try to go to the one in the city that Iva Mae attends ... but when I got about 20 feet out of the garage, wheels were spinning and I was close to getting stuck.

I was trying to dig a channel through the snowbanks.

So decided that it would be a good idea to stay home.

By the way ... Iva Mae is good company, too.

A couple of years ago, it took us a while before we realized that, though I knew she lived in London, (and she knew that I did, I think) that we realized that we attend the same church.

But we hadn't spoken to one another, to any extent, earlier.

I felt sad that Iva Mae didn't feel up to making the trip to Windsor in the spring to take the housewarming gifts to cherry fizz.
