My Head Is Spinning......

A week and a half before Christmas our 4-month old freezer died.

Of course it was a weekend, on Mond. we called and were told no one could come out till the 27 (over a week away).

Made a few calls, twisted an arm or two and got someone out Wed. 19th. He took a quick look, said the compressor was shot, and the freezer (still under warrantee) would probably be replaced. Promised to call that evening with details.

No call that evening or next day. DH started calling and leaving messages--no call backs.

Called Lowe's and spoke to manager. He said the parts were ordered (WTF????? thought we were getting a new freezer?), we'd get a call when they were in to schedule the repair.

Waited.... waited.... waited.....

Finally, this morning, the repair guy's wife called and said that our freezer doesn't exist. DOESN'T EXIST!!! so they can't order the parts. We were out, so couldn't check the serial # till we got home. When we did, it was exactly the one we'd given her before. Bottom line? That all means that the parts HAVE NOT YET BEEN ORDERED.

Meanwhile, someone from Fridgedaire called to ask if our freezer had been fixed yet. Boy did she get an earful. We recounted the whole sordid experience (and I've really abbreviated the tale here). She was not happy with the way we've been treated and said she wanted us to get a new freezer. She had to make a call, would get back to us. Sure, we weren't holding our breath. About a half hour later, though, she called and and said our unit would be replaced. We have to wait till Lowe's gets the paperwork.

So, we're going on 2 weeks with no freezer, have been twisted this way and that the entire time. Don't really know what to believe.

Hope this gets resolved soon. Am SO glad we brought our old fridge with us when we moved and put it in the basement. We quickly plugged that in when we realized the new freezer wasn't cooling, and were able to save almost all our frozen food.

And the real kicker? We left our 'old' freezer at the old house--figuring it was too much trouble to move. It's still going strong--and it's 35 years old!!!!! We should have brought that one, I guess, rather than buy new.

Only thing I know for sure? Is that I will NOT be buying any more major appliances from Lowe's.
