Kalie (DD#2) & Mike have found out she is preggers!!! She didn't believe me (apparently) that I got preggers on the first 'try' with all 3 (we lost one between the girls) pregnancies! She is just so I am assuming the end of August. Now if you could all say a prayer that all goes well since they are telling people so early! They are both THRILLED to say the least....and of course this Nana & Papa are too.

Just had to share....because Kalie said I could! LOL

Hi Sylvia! Glad to hear that you are all settled in. The cold must be shocking to someone not accustomed to it. I hope that you get a thaw like the one we are getting (finally!) here in Ohio. A little respite before it gets frigid again! I just thought I'd let you know what my DH and two oldest boys did in January. They are all Scouters. In fact DH is the Scout Master and #2 son is the Senior Patrol Leader for our Boy Scout troop. Well these lunatics went CAMPING! The whole troop drove through the snow storm to get to the southern Ohio hills and set up camp. Everyone slept warm in tents except for my eldest. He wanted to top the troop record for "freeze" camping. That is sleeping under the stars with no tent. Well, HE DID! I reached -9 degrees that night! This just goes to prove two things that I solemnly believe. #1-CAMP is a four letter word and #2, boys are stupid. Throw rocks at them!!!!!!! If further proof is needed, they have another camp out planned in two weeks. It is the "Freeze Campout", an annual event where they ALL sleep without tents in the cold. They cancel for only ONE reason, if the temps go above freezing!! See, testosterone does cause insanity! I know it has for me. All of those six boys (counting DH)drive me crazy! I did one of these kinda like yours after a horrible accident with a LARGE gazing ball hit by a rock thrown from my lawn mower. I loving garden stuff had kept the base of the gazing ball when this happened a couple of years ago; I guess thinking of buying a new one. Well never did of course. some time after this happend my grandmother passed away and I got one of her old globe style lights that hung by a chain on her back porch well the light had a short so I took the globe off and wired it with a small watt bulb like that goes inside one of those Christmas village houses and make myself a lighted gazing ball for my yard I just love it and chereish it very much as it was something from my GM and I dont have many things of hers. I know she is looking down at night and loving it too.

i think we .. probably me .. isn't being clear .... conifers/trees belong in the ground ... that is what every NEWBIE or novice should be told ..... unless they are willing to kill a few .. while mastering pot culture .... e.g. obviously bonsai conifers all grow in pots... and many others will do just fine... but the poster seems to suggest ... that the pot was placed .. and left there .... and i surmise that is at the root of the problems .. besides possible location ... and watering habits.. etc ... tree farms grow thousands of conifers in pots ... and hundreds of them perish .. a cost of doing business ... so even the pros have a hard time with pots... and its all factored into the profit margin ... but for most of us.. including myself .... i would need a lot of learning.. and losses.. to succeed at growing conifers in pots.. and as you note.. the proper pots.. with the proper medium.. with proper watering.. and proper fertilizer .... its not like sticking a petunia in a pot... annuals and perennials are much more forgiving than conifers ... and there is the whole zone thing with pots .... its a whole nother world out here in the Midwest.. where we have winters like you wouldn't believe.. lol ... as background.. when i moved.. i potted EVERYTHING in my yard.. 1300 hosta.. and a flurry [200 more pots] of other stuff ... stacked them outside the polebarn after they froze solid on their sides .. and stacked them as high as i could in the new polebarn ... the ones outside .. on the west.. did fine.. until spring sun started warming them ... but the ones in the barn broke dormancy months early from the effects of late winter heat being trapped inside the barn .. i figure i was a zone 7 or 8 ... the problem was that once they came out of dormancy ... i had to unstack them .. and then move them outside.. because floor space was limited.. and with last frost date 60 days away.. all kinds of problems occurred.. like late snow.. hard frosts.. rain on frozen pots .. etc ... in march ... a year later.. i gave a speech at hosta college [go figure...lol] about losing almost 10% of my hosta ... two big shots in the trade came up after and told me.. that if they ONLY lost 10% per winter.. they would be rich .. lol ... the point being simply this... growing in pots is very hard.. and takes a lot of practice... and losses ... sooner or later .. you will work it all out .. but i wouldn't recommend to any novice to start near the end of their garden education ... get it in the ground.. and let ma nature take care of it.. and experiment later.. when you have more experience under your belt ... anyway ... as always.. i like the debate ... ken

Oh PM, that is the most beautiful cabinet from windows! And it would fit my style so well! TFS! I'll show DH but I know what he'll say & I know that I'm thinking the same thing, too...WHERE WOULD YOU PUT IT??? (LOL!) I've used up all my space (& more) so I would have to get rid of something...& it wouldn't fit in DR or LR ...so probably the porch area (& I already have the corner door cabinet, Hoosier cabinet & hanging wall shelf out there! ;-) Thanks for that idea! ;-) I don't know if my DH would trade places for awhile...but I know your Mr. O would hate it here in Winter...the golf courses just opened ...tho they are soggy & cold! punk ...I don't know much about the shuttle loom or weaving...but I saw this at one of my fave consignment shops & it was $10 ...I knew the middle was called a bobbin cause I have some of those w/threads on them in a basket. First of all, I told myself I didn't need it...& then a few wks later I went bk & it was still there & 30% off (or something like that)...so I knew I needed it! :-0 Sounds like jane did some of this art, so hopefully she'll share some expertise on this pc! Reminds me of DD and first DSIL, they got married Oct 23 and by Christmas called from Iowa to announce Hunter would be born Aug 21st!

Congratulations! I got pregnant with my first on my 29th birthday, (Nov 15) , found out at the doctors on my youngest sister's birthday (December 3) and announced it to my family on Christmas (Dec 25, teehee). My first daughter was due Aug 12 but arrived just a little early, July 29 1988. She turned 21 last summer! Congratulations to all of you!

Yes, this is our official first grandbaby. Caryn DD#1 had a baby 7 years ago, and he is adopted and we are still really close to him and his family, but we are not Nana and Papa to him.

My mom was conceived on my grandparents honeymoon. She was born 3 months early. If it wasn't for her being SO TINY when she was born, no one would have believed they didn't HAVE to get married, lol.

my grandparents went to New Orleans for their honeymoon and my grandmother says she was too scare to leave the hotel room, "okayyyy, sure" LOL

I am not a knitter, Sheila......but I am sure getting my sewing machines oiled and ready to go! =) I have a ton of old baby patterns (the kind that will never go out of style!) that I will have to go through!

Yes, we will be finding out the sex. Mike and I are to antsy to wait for something like that.
We have our first dr's appt today just to discuss the do's and don'ts and just pick the dr's brain :)

Boy, are you in for tons of fun.. When I found out we were going to be grandparents I went out and bought a piggy bank and started putting in the change. What a great surprise. I also started buying the baby laundry soap and things like this. All of this gets so expensive for the kids and it helps so much. A friend of mine bought something each week. It might be just a spoon or pacifier. She wrapped all of them and gave them to her daughter when the baby was born. There are so many things you can do that are so much fun as the process goes along.

One thing I did was buy the book called The Pregnancy Journal. It goes week by week as the baby developes. When my daughter had her second and third child she read to the other kids from week to week to include them. they loved it...

This is an exciting time. Enjoy every minute of it...

Oh good for you Sandy and Dean. I know your excited. Prayers for all to go well. My sister got pregnant on their honeymoon too. They were married July 15th, and he was born April 23rd. I do think he was born a little earlier than he should have been. Like, back then 47 yrs ago, they couldn't pin point the exact due date like now. He looked like a skinny little old man. Not very filled out.

When I saw the title of your post I knew what you were going to be posting. I remember at one time you saying Kalie and Mike wanted to get started right away. Congratulations to all of you. Kalie will be easy for everyone to recognize at the KT party. I know you will be busy sewing this winter.

A nice 'pink' healthy baby would be wonderful!! lol I will be happy with either as they will.

There are going to be ALOT of changes in these 2 kids in the next few months....should be a fun ride...to watch! lol
